Although I'll take the lp anyday over the cd, this cd will introduce a whole new generation to this major talent. Not many know that Teagarden was vocally at his peak by the early 1960's. He was an exellent singer, and one of the greatest bluesy jazz singers of all time. This exellent cd, re-issues in full the lp "Mis'ry & The Blues." An lp that was wonderful because it mixes intrumentals with vocals for a ferfect blend of jazz and elegance. Teagarden's best 3 sessions came from his 3 verve lp's(the other was the highlight of his career THINK WELL OF ME). Here there are several Willard Robison songs which Teagarden croons beautifully with all the charm of Bing Crosby. His trombone solos are good, but the highlight of this lp is his vocalizing which sounds SOOOO SMOOOTH! A great lp, now a great CD!!!

I purchased this album in the sixties, and fell in love with its slow pace full of longings, regrets, admonishments, and just plain living. It was and has remained one of my favorite jazz albums of all time. The delivery of the lyrics makes one live the story while being moved by the music. This kind of musical intimacy has been created by few performers. It just does not get any better with this music essential to any collection of traditional jazz.

Excellent,

The best quality jazz sound is on this Teagarden album from 1961. I love this style and the vocals are perfect. The trumpet by Goldie is as good as he gets. I recommend this one for any Teagarden fan, or anyone who enjoys the best quality jazz.

Jack Teagarden has always been a favorite of mine, and this album that has escaped my perusal all of these years hasn't changed my mind. The album showcases Teagarden at the end of his life, and he has lost absolutely nothing in his sound; its just as if he's continued to get better right up to the end. Jack has selected these tunes to represent some lesser known items in the repertoire, and unfortunately, I don't care for many of them. It doesn't keep Teagarden from doing a miraculous job. His singing is a bit more gravelly than in the past, but very emotional nonetheless.
