OH MY GOD! I've just listened to this album again and I thought I had to tell the world how great it is. How is it possible that every time I listen to it my heart beats faster and tears roll over my face? There is no way without falling short of words to describe the beauty and heavenly perfection of this opus. Unless you like Britney-like pop, you will instantly fall for this-

THE SONGS
They are all perfect. Ariel Ramirez, who wrote the music, is one of the most talented musicians in the world. Every melody has the power to evoke emotions and feelings almost in a supernatural way. Plus, each song is an example of different styles within argentinean traditional music. Still, the entire opus belts out an incredible integrity that makes you look upon it as a whole.

THE VOICE
Mercedes Sosa: one of (if not the most) powerful voices on Earth. She recorded this album at 65! and still she can pull off outstanding performances with her strong, contralto voice. You have to listen to it at full volume, and you'll get thrills.

THE CHOIR
A perfect set of argentinean voices. They can easily handle the subtleties that this exceptional music requires.

THE ARRANGEMENTS
Whenever you first listen to this album, you will recognize an outstanding talent. The Misa Criolla was first recorded in the 1970's, and the man who plays the charango in this version is the same old man that did it 30 years ago. Everything was put together so that the result is utterly flawless.

BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY.. If you're really into quality music you will instantly catalogue this among the best albums of all times. And you will listen to it eyes-shut, full volume, while drinking some scotch.

Too bad it isn't possible to listen to sample tracks from this CD, because I think anyone who hears the first 30 seconds of this magnificent Misa will want it at once. Today I'm buying it for the fourth time - I give them as gifts to my favorite people. Play it on a stereo with good bass response and be prepared for an extraordinary experience. Mercedes Sosa is always amazing, and this CD is Mercedes Sosa at her very best.

what can I say.....everytime I hear this album the little hairs behind my neck rise...

It is so beautiful, so simple and so elegant. Mercedes Sosa is one of the greatest singers of all time, her voice is strong and powerful, but at the same time it can be so tender and warm. The chorus and Sosa's voice are just the perfect combination for achieving religious ecstasy. You can listen to this album even if you are not a christian music fan, I am not.

favorite album song; Gloria....pure climax.

This is an incredible performance of the "Misa Criolla" (mass creole). The Mercedes Sosa's voice is sublime. Great interpretation of Ariel Ramirez's folklore.

Her voice ... what an amazing voice! Smoky, pure vowels, beautifully sung, and with a voice perfectly suited for the material. By far the best version I've listened to of the Misa Criolla. Everyone I've played it too swoons.

WIsh they'd thought a bit more about the whole sound, though. The other material I could have done without. And when I'm still in heaven at the end of the Misa Criolla, I find it quite jarring suddenly being plunged into something altogether different.

Wonderful, more authentic performance of the Misa Criolla, then the Carreras version on Philips. The recording is beautiful.

Played it at my father's funeral, will never forget.

Beautiful voice and music. It's very earthy but also has that spinetingling effect of religious music in general, as well.

Having been to a concert where extracts of this CD were played and having read so many positive reviews I bought it but I cannot see how people can listen to it for pleasure regularly. I did once and that is enough. The pieces are long-winded, slow and monotonous. There are some good pieces but few and far between.

Mercedes Sosa has been on my radar screen for a long time and I really enjoy her music. Another thing that I really enjoy is "Misa Criolla" - the Catholic mass from the Argentine. It is beautiful...very moving, very touching. Ms. Sosa does an excellent job with her rendition. I would highly recommend it.
