Re-read Cam's review. He's dead-on. This is the original, an effort unmatched by any, including Sosa, Carreras, et al. My original LP, purchased decades ago, was copied to multiple casettes and sent to friends. The LP simply wore out from repeated playing. The original local boys - Ramirez y "los Fronterizos" - laid down music that set a benchmark for passion. As with the original Phillips nonpareil recording of Missa Luba, one wishes only that there had been additional lyrics and music added to the Mass. Buy the CD and enjoy; buy two and put the copy in the safe deposit box.

For all of us who, in the 1970's, fell in love with the original Philips vinyl LP of Misa Criolla by los Fronterizos, this is the CD you've been waiting for! Don't be misled because this modern reissue of that wonderful old masterpiece doesn't feature the iconic deep orange album cover (see my alternate customer image above, at the top left of this page); the cover art on this CD is simply a reproduction of the LP sleeve from its initial South American release in the 1970's.

Digitally remastered in the US from the original tapes, this CD release of the classic old LP absolutely sparkles; reproducing, in stunning depth and crystal clarity, the verve, passion and rhythms that captivated us all those years ago. From the first deep, insistent throbbing of the bombo drum, you will feel the hairs on the back of your neck rise in awe and delight!

Be aware that los Fronterizos later recorded another performance (which, I must admit, I haven't heard), but this CD is the original version and still by far the best!

Don't worry about any of the others, this is the real McCoy - just buy it, buy it, buy it!

outstanding - just like the original - only now in CD. This recording is still the best - less "polished." but Ariel Ramírez obviously liked it, and it has all the emotion.

I hadn't heard the Misa Criolla for forty years and was thrilled to find it remastered, sounding just the way it did when I heard it first on a 33-1/3 record. Nothing since comes close. It still makes the hairs rise on the back of my neck.

Finally after so many years I found the real performer of the Misa Criolla by Ariel Ramirez.

I've had the record for years, and it got scratches and old, and now I can at last enjoy it again.

If you are looking for the original and best version of the Misa Criolla, and the accompanying musical drama "Navidad Nuestra", this is the CD you want! I have the original Philips LP and this CD has the same exact selections. The vibrant and dramatic voices of the soloists known as "Los Fronterizos" adds a unique and powerful sound that is not found on the several versions of Misa Criolla released in recent years. This original 1964 recording is the best.

I HAVE 3 OR 4 VERSION OF THIS MASS WITH CARRERAS,SOSA,LOS FRONTERIZOS "NEW VERSION",BUT TO BE HONEST THIS RECORDING STILL THE VERY BEST OF THE BEST.IF YOU WANT THE BEST RECORDING OF MISA CRIOLLA "THIS IS THE ONE YOU WANT TO HAVE.IT SOUNDS POWERFUL IN YOUR CAR STEREO AND VERY EXCENT SOUND. Many years ago I bought this recording with its lovely blend of voices, and while many well known opera singers have made fine recordings since, only this recording embodies the true souls for whom it was created!

The packaging was excellent. The CD was packed in a cardboard box with further protective cardboard. This was a nice surprise as in the past, from other vendors the CD and DVD covers have arrived cracked and broken as not enough protection was used in the packaging. The CD also arrived before the estimate date. I would definitely use this company again and would recommend it to others.

I have not heard any other recordings of this work, but I can attest to the fact that the quality of performance and recording seems superior to most other alternative or ethnic musical performances.

Like the Missa Luba, I would expect this recording to be well received among those who are searching for alternative, contemporary, or 'ethnic' religious artistic expression. If the work does nothing else, it shows what can be done with South American styles (The recording was done in Buenos Aires, Argentina, (Notes are all in Spanish, and I can't read Spanish, but I can make out those city and country names) although much of the graphic style of the package gives an impression of Mexico, as does the musical style.

I will make one reservation. The recording is quite short by modern standards. I'm sure it has everything on the original vinyl, but that is a scant 30 minutes, where we are used to betting 55 - 70 minutes on a CD these days.
