The Misadventures of Rooter and Snuffle is a sweet book about two mischievous raccoons. These two characters don't mean to get into trouble, yet trouble seems to find them. Each short chapter gives the reader a chuckle as Rooter and Snuffle learn some important life lessons. Kevin Collier, illustrator, has captured the raccoon's personalities well. Their comical expressions make this story a delight to read. Rooter and Snuffle are two characters children won't forget easily! The three stories included are "The Search," "Rooter's Rule" and "Danger at River Bend." ---Reviewed by Jennifer Reed, Wee Ones Children's Magazine Editor

4.0 out of 5 stars Raccoon Fun, January 3, 2010
This review is from: The Misadventures of Rooter & Snuffle (Paperback)
The Misadventures of Rooter & Snuffle is three stories in one picture book. Each story teaches a lesson through the character's experiences.Have you ever heard of a praying raccoon? Brace yourself as the two brother's attempt to extricate themselves from their misadventures with God's helping hand.

In the first story, "The Search", Rooter has come of age and is allowed to forage for food on his own. That's not exactly true. Mother and father make him take his baby brother along. Snuffle disappears and Rooter's imagination churns up some dire outcomes. He was not responsible. What will happen to Snuffle? Will he find him?

In the second story, "Rooter's Rule", Rooter's parents make him share. Even a friend scolds him for not sharing with his little brother. Rooter doesn't understand why everyone wants him to share everything. Will Rooter ever learn to have a giving heart and share?

In the third story, "Danger at River Bend", Rooter's mother warns him not to go to the River Bend. His beaver friend, Sloppy assures him it is perfectly safe, and it has the perfect skipping stones. Snuffle wants to learn to skip stones. He agrees to go with Sloppy. Rooter ends up following along. Will they get caught? Why did Mother think it was dangerous?

Shari shows the resentment an older child can feel for younger siblings. Rooter's inner dialogue is portrayed realistically. Any child, that has a younger brother or sister will identify with Rooter. Shari shows how struggles are handled with prayer and introspection.

The illustrations by Kevin Collier draw the readers into the story. From the raccoon's black mask stretched across his soulful eyes to the contents of a trash can, the pictures cause a child to fall head over heels for the "The Misadventures of Rooter & Snuffle". On Shari's web page [...] you can scroll down and watch a video. In the video, Kevin will teach you to draw a raccoon like Rooter & Snuffle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two delightful raccoons!, April 2, 2008
This review is from: The Misadventures of Rooter & Snuffle (Paperback)
This is a delightful picture book sure to be loved by young children! Composed of three different stories and an activity section, The Misadventures of Rooter & Snuffle will keep kids entertain for a long time.

"Share, share, share! Why do I always have to share?" says Rooter, the oldest raccoon brother, in the book's first story, "Rooter's Rule". Rooter is supposed to share his acorns with Snuffle, his little brother. But why should he? It isn't fair... or is it?

In "Danger at River Bend", Rooter tries to teach Snuffle how to skip rocks in the riverbank... a dangerous place where they have a fright! If only they had listened to their mom!

In "The Search", Rooter scurries from the campsite in search of his favorite meal, butter beans and ham. In doing so, he loses sight of his little brother. Desperate, he forgets about food in order to look for Snuffle.

The stories are engaging and the artwork vivid and vibrant with bright colors. This is a great book to read to kids at bedtime, one that will not only teach valuable messages but also induce happy dreams. The activity section includes a word scramble, wordsearch, counting, and picture seek & find.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Misadventures of Rooter & Snuffle, March 2, 2008
This review is from: The Misadventures of Rooter & Snuffle (Paperback)
We loved this book! The pictures we're colorful and the stories really cute. My younger daughter reads this book over & over. As a Mom it was fun to read to my children ages 7 & 9. This was a great way to subtley remind my children of the "Golden Rule"...even as adults we sometimes forget. I was very pleased to find copies of this book in our childrens school library. We have since given this as a gift to my friends son...he loves these naughty racoons (I think he can relate, ha, ha, ha). Enjoy The Book!
