This is one of the best movies I have ever watched so far! it was clearly well thought out, since the actors and actresses were all perfect in their place. It's a movie for the whole family, and a great moral value! Everyone should see this movie!!!!!

The writers of this movie obviously had no clue as to the motivations of Hugo's characters. This was clearly a poor slapping-together of charicatures. Rush's Javert comes across as a cardboard villain, with utterly no nobility or honor. This isn't the Javert Hugo created. Neeson's Valjean is better crafted, but still lacks the greatness of the character in the book. This movie also ignores the social messages of the novel and seems to lack a clear focus. And where are Enjorlas, Eponine, the Thenardiers? For a much better-acted and better conceived version that covers the same ground as this one, see the Frederic March/Charles Laughton 1935 version. The 1998 version should be forgotten

Read the book instead!, March 19, 1999

I was truly not impressed with this film after reading the epic novel by Victor Hugo. It did not convey the same spirit and ideas that Hugo was trying to portray. The novel is made up of five volumes. Three fourths of this film was spent on the first volume, and Cosette's adult life seemed almost an afterthought. The musical was infinitely better. One positive note -- Liam Neeson's portrayal of Jean Valjean was rather good.

In our eyes this movie was absolutely stunning. It was casted perfectly. The costumes and looks of every actor was perfect. Liam Nession played the part of Jean Valjean excently. His acting compared to Colm Wilkinson's singing. Geofferoy Rush played the part as if he were Javert. Each and every little nok and cranery of this movie was filled perfectly.

LIAM NEESON AND GEOFFERY RUSH ARE CAST PERFECTLY AS JEAN VALJEAN AND JARVET. UMA THURMAN IS BEAUTIFUL AS THE DESTITUTE FAINTINE. ALTHOUGH NOT TRUE TO THE BOOK, THE FINAL SCEEN IS A DRAMATIC AND SATISFYING CONCLUSION TO THE MOVIE.

Les miserables is a very underated movie. It was acted beutifully. Clair Daines made a perfect cosette. It has a starstuded cast withe Uma Therman as Fantine, Clair Daines ac cosette, Jefforey Rush as Javert and Liam Neelsen as Jean Val Jean.
