A laugh out loud read,
By
This review is from: Misery Loves Cabernet (Paperback)
Charlize aka Charlie Edwards works as a personal assistant to one of Hollywood's famous movie stars, Drew Stanton. It is not as easy and glamorous as one would think it would be working for a celebrity, especially when that person is Drew Stanton. Luckily for Charlie, she has her two best friends, Kate and Dawn by her side.
Just when Charlie begins to believe everything is going good for her, someone throws her a curve ball. First the guy she is seeing Jordan is offered a job in Paris. He will be gone for three months. Charlie doesn't think it will work between them doing the long distance relationship thing but she gives it a try anyways. Then her boss gets fired from the movie he is starring in...all due to an incident involving a hippo named Ida and a movie producer's swimming pool. When Charlie spots her crush, Liam O'Connor, famous movie producer at a Halloween party, all bets are off between Jordan and her. Besides the statistics involving couples and long term relationships are not very good. Misery Loves Cabernet is a fabulous, wonderful, witty and charming book.I absolutely loved Charlie and all her friends. Charlie and her friends need to have their own television series. I would definitely watch it. I couldn't put this book down, in fact this book is a one-sitter! When you meet all the people that Charlie has to put up with, it makes her seem normal and everyone else dysfunctional. There are so many favorite moments for me in this book. One of the best had to be towards the very end when Charlie's grandparents arrived in their Winnebago to spend Thanksgiving with the family. Charlie's grandmother presented everyone with a list of items that had everything from Yogi Berra to baseball strikes on it. The list involved things that no one can mention during the holiday season. For other great moments like these, you have got to pick up a copy of Misery Loves Cabernet today.

Misery Loves Cabernet . . . and so do I!,
This review is from: Misery Loves Cabernet (Paperback)
Finally, a story about women and relationships that doesn't neglect the most important of all female relationships - the one a woman has with herself. This novel had everything I loved about it's predecessor and then some. It was engaging, real, and most of all hilarious. A must read in my book! (Bad pun intended).

I bought this book based on the reviews and was sorely disappointed. I am so tired of the 30-something, desperate for a husband/boyfriend, "He's Not That In To You", genre. It makes me want to apologize for my gender. This book does not hold a candle to any Sophie Kinsella novel in writing, cleverness, character or subject matter. A real letdown. The only saving grace was the Thanksgiving-with-the-relatives scenario.

Misery Loves Cabernet is so fantastically written. I adored A Total Waste of Makeup, and Misery far surpassed it! Kim Gruenenfelder is brilliant and witty in every possible way!

Fun read! Great bathtub, poolside or beachfront read!,
This review is from: Misery Loves Cabernet (Paperback)
Yes, the premise may be same old, same old but aren't all girl-loves-boy books? This one was funny and kept me interested enough that I read too long into many evenings. This my first read from this author and I look forward to more!

This chick-lit tale about Charlie (Charlize) is very entertaining at best with the drama and hilarity, which include her heartbroken relationship/separation with Jordan; her somewhat hookup with long-time-crush movie producer Liam O'Connor; her absolutely crazed boss, Hollywood's famous movie star, Drew Stanton (I just love him; he is definitely from another planet); and her two best friends Dawn and Kate. As a side-bar in the story, Charlie is journaling her experiences in romance as a guide for women alike--specifically, her years-down-the-road, someday granddaughter. And so, she writes some of the most comical, sarcastic clichés about love on what/what not to do. All in all, the amusement in "Misery Loves Cabernet" combined with all the characters makes for one charming read. This is a first for me by K. Gruenenfelder and I found it to be very well-written and extremely enjoyable.

Am I the only person who struggles reading Kim Gruenenfelder books? They read like a movie script and not a novel. Misery Loves Cabernet is going on the bookshelf unfinished.

Gruenenfelder's best book...,

Ok, so as embarassed as I am to admit I love good chick lit, I have to say I loved this book. I don't think I've ever laughed out loud so many times while reading a book before. Gruenenfelder's humor and characters make this book hard to put down. I was disappointed to find that her comedic voice isn't as powerful in her other books, but hopefully moving forward there will be more of this kind of material coming from her!

I can't believe all these reviews gave it 5 stars! I read Total Waste of Makeup, and just loved it....but Misery Lves Cabernet was like a tired old sitcom after a hilarious pilot.
No character development; just the hilarious ones from the first book going through the same motions.

I typically like chick-lit novels but I find this one trying to be eccentric and funny but falls flat. It is slow moving and I could never really get into the storyline. I finally gave up at 2/3 through.
