2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment in the making
To be honest, I bought this book for my brother in law and was really excited about it because he is a die hard duck hunter. He goes to Alaska for special trips at least once a year, and otherwise spends many hours perfecting his duck call and training his dog. But to be honest, the book was a disappointment. This review is from: Misery Loves Company: Waterfowling and the Relentless Pursuit of Self-Abuse (Hardcover)
Written and illustrated by waterfowler and photographer Bill Buckley, Misery Loves Company: Waterfowling And The Relentless Pursuit Of Self-Abuse is an adventurous and photographic celebration of the successes, trials, and battles against the elements that determined and dedicated waterfowl hunters endure in pursuit of their sport. Full color photographs illustrate of every stage of the hunt, and are enhanced with an informal and descriptive text of what it is like to be out in the wet and the cold in search of airborne game, making Misery Loves Company an enjoyable and mildly humorous giftbook.

The laughter will bring tears to your eyes. If you have'nt been in 50% or more of these situations you haven't been duck hunting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Side-splitting Fun!, November 15, 2002

This review is from: Misery Loves Company: Waterfowling and the Relentless Pursuit of Self-Abuse (Hardcover)
This is one of those rare books that is every bit as good as the hype--if not better. My first time through it, I laughed so hard that I cried. My wife saw the effect it had on me and, though she doesn't hunt ducks herself, picked it up and laughed almost all the way through. The predicaments and pratfalls are hilarious, and oh so true to life! I don't know Bill Buckley, but after reading his book I think he must be a hoot to have around in duck camp.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment in the making, December 4, 2010
This review is from: Misery Loves Company: Waterfowling and the Relentless Pursuit of Self-Abuse (Hardcover)
To be honest, I bought this book for my brother in law and was really excited about it because he is a die hard duck hunter. He goes to Alaska for special trips at least once a year, and otherwise spends many hours perfecting his duck call and training his dog. But to be honest, the book was a disappointment. The writing accompanying the photos was mediocre at best. Disjointed and forced, the photos at least tried to create a story. But even the photos were not as entertaining as the review would lead you to believe. This book really deserves only two stars. It does look like a nice coffee table book, but after paging through the first few pages, I don't foresee many dying to finish it.

4.0 out of 5 stars It did the job!, February 28, 2006

My husband and a few of my guy friends are avid waterfowlers. These books (Misery Loves Company: Waterfowling and the Relentless Pursuit of Self-Abuse & Don't Shoot the Decoys: Original Stories of Waterfowling Obsession) were purchased as gifts, and so suited the purpose. Huge amounts of relaying aloud of their content was overheard by any and all in vicinity. An obvious indication to the entertaining aspect these books provided. Many a moment was there a reminiscent feel to the reading - of what is actually experienced in the field. Kudos to the authors!

This book is entertaining, well written, and has great pictures. This was a present for Christmas 2011 to my father-in-law, who is an avid duck hunter. He appreciated the book and had quite a few laughs the night he opened it. This was a great gift!

This is a fabulous tongue-in-cheek book that any water-fowl or game hunter will identify with (so will their friends and family). Very enjoyable.

Great photos which capture the extemes waterfowl hunters live to persue their sport. I felt the cold, the dampness and excitement of the duck blind in Buckleys photographs. Great book!

It's about time someone did a book about the miserable conditions of waterfowl hunting. I can finally show my wife what most of my duck hunting trips are like. Funny book with true to life miserable duck hunting conditions. Great idea...great book.
