Overall, this is fun to play, but it's a bit short - it took me about five hours to complete. One difference about this game is the lack of returns to the same room - each main room has three smaller rooms to explore, and you never go back to the same scene to find more objects. I expected a longer game considering the size of the download, but a lot of that turned out to be animation.
What I liked: - There's no time limit - The hidden objects aren't *too* difficult to find, but they take a bit of searching. - The storyline is well-written - it's funny, a bit sad, and charming in places. - The riddles are fun and relatively easy to solve. - The penalty for too many mis-clicks is rather high ::g:: (you'll see what I mean). - In addition to the usual objects and mini-games, there are some 'minor' ghosts to be captured, and they have some fun stories behind them. What I didn't like: - The mini-games are mostly hand-eye coordination/speed games, and I'm no good at those, but after an initial try, you can skip them. - Some objects are difficult to find because the graphics are a bit *too* cartoonish. - I expected some sort of interactive play at the end, but the characters wrap it up without any help. Overall, this game is a little different from the usual HOG formula, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something new.

I had a great time with this game. The graphics were great and the searches were challenging. I also enjoyed figuring out where the riddles were. It was harder to find where the riddles were than to solve them but still fun. I had hours of fun! Would definitely recommend!

I have no idea how this game is selling for $3.49, but it is a complete steal. The amount of fun and entertainment that is stuffed into this amazingly tight package is very high. The graphics in this game are of a much, much higher quality than any others like it and the attention to detail is almost limitless. Every scene, character, and visual aspect (right down to the Main Menu) are expertly crafted and woven into what is going on in the game. Not sure if anyone that ever worked with Tim Burton is a developer on this game, but I wouldn't be surprised since it delivers much of the same visual insanity (and this is a good thing)so often found in his films.
The story and concepts, although presented in a very innocent and kooky vain, are actually quite involved, complex, and downright interesting. In addition to the commonplace HOG scenes, the game also presents several different "mini-games" to play. These "Minis" are anything but, and some are fun enough to be considered games in themselves. A trophy system is in place to encourage you to go back and "go for the gold." Finally, as a musician, I usually can't stand the music in games like this. However, Mishap's soundtrack is as varied and well-done as the rest of the game. Every song is themed to the level you play in and fit in wonderfully. I would even consider buying a soundtrack of it. This game is a fun and unique game that has something for everyone and at $3.50... there is simply nothing offering this much value.

i really love this game. it's interesting and i already played it two times.
the mini games are alot of fun. the hidden object scenes are not too hard, but not too easy. there are hints also. you can actually skip the minigames too. i really like this game and i have ordered a bunch lately. this one is a keeper and it does have the replay factor.

I was surprised by this game. The graphics are great. Not too difficult. Never repeat the same room. There are quite a large number of items to find in each location. The penalty for over clicking is interesting too. Some of the little mini games were fun. Because I enjoyed it so much, I hated to have it end. It was not long enough for me, but longer than some I have played. The creators outdid themselves with the scenes and graphics. Very creative. Thumbs up from me!

I deleted it before finishing it, after purchase. If you have children beware of the foyer scene, there is a statue of a woman
seated with legs open, nothing to imagine. The artwork is great - the items are not the easiest to find, not very hard though. Ghosts, ghosts, and more ghosts! Had enough of it all!

I didn't care for this game at all. I did the free trial and was relieved when my time was "up". There is a list of things you need to find, but a lot of times, even with a large high quality screen, I had no idea what the objects looked like. When I would use the hint, and see what the object was supposed to look like, I would scratch my head and think "You've got to be kidding." I would randomly click places that looked like they MIGHT be the object and this big ugly head zoomed into the middle of the screen. It was not scary, just really, really annoying. When the magnifying glass "glows" there is a ghost and you need to find it. Twice it SAID I found the ghost, but I still don't know how. Several times I took the magnifying glass and carefully searched every inch and never found anything. With other games I ask for a hint, and smack my head and say "Oh, I should have seen that," but with this one I just feel confused.

A fantastic game marred, at least in my case, by some technical problems,

Mishap: An Accidental Haunting is truly one of the most enjoyable, lushly animated, and atmospheric hidden object games out there. Graphics-wise, it's the best game of this type I've seen or played - in terms of the puzzles, the comic book style introduction to each chapter, and the full-blown animation present at the beginning and end of the game as a whole. Basically, you're helping a young couple - and the strange little ghost hunter who mysteriously turns up at their door - to find and trap the myriad of ghosts haunting their home. Among all of the hidden objects you have to find across 30 unique rooms are the components the weird ghost hunter will use to trap the main spirits haunting each section. You are also called upon to discover a number of lesser (and much more comical) spirits along the way. The music and ambient sounds actually add to the experience, especially the dark ghostly chuckle you hear when you've found objects that will be used to trap a particular ghost. Mishap also comes with as diverse a set of mini-games as you're likely to find in a game such as this - some are more enjoyable and challenging than others, but they are all optional for the player. The game also comes with some extra features to make the whole experience a little more amusing - for every one of the pesky ghosts you're trapping, there's a funny story behind his/her demise. Heck, the storyline of the game even throws in a surprise twist at the very end.
I must admit, however, that I experienced some annoying technical problems that had a definite negative impact on my game experience. After I completed the first two chapters, I was forced to endure a horrible and constant roar coming out of my speakers. I could still make out the words and music on top of the sound, but it was a really annoying problem. Sometimes it would clear itself up for a chapter ending or maybe even an entire chapter, but it always came back with a vengeance at some point. I could find no problem with my sound settings, and reinstalling the game accomplished nothing in this regard. That being the case, I have to lower my rating a little bit - but I still consider this a must-have item for hidden object game enthusiasts. |
