To Thine Own Self Be True,
This review is from: A Misrepresentation of Myself (Paperback)
Is it possible to be honest or love anyone else with out really doing the same for yourself, first? That is a question that Mary E.Gilder presents in her new book A MISREPRESENTATION OF MYSELF. The questions that arise in this debut novel center around the importance of understanding where you are in life, what brought you to that point and being honest about where you want to go.It's true that not all circumstances can be avoided, but when you realize that you are playing a key role in your own undoing, it's important to be willing to change course. An excellent read.

Date: March 13, 2011Title: A Misrepresentation of Myself Author: Mary E. Glider ISBN 10: ISBN 13: 978-0-9823844-0-4 Pages: 212 Publisher: MEG'S Publishing Cover: Paperback Reviewer: Gregory Bryant - Literary Wonders! (gbryant@literarywonders.com) Rating: 4 Stars Author Mary E. Glider's entertaining book, A Misrepresentation of Myself, will have readers thinking hard about their past demons and how to deal with them. The book is appropriately titled and chronicles the personal and professional life of Zolla Ramsey. She puts up a good front about her marriage until Maxwell Garrison enters her life. His patient persistence has her quickly falling for him. This has made her reevaluate her life and her past. This book will touch many aspects of what some women and men are going through regarding relationships with a spouse and/or a mother. Clayton Ramsey, Zolla's husband, has lost touch with his feelings and what is truly important in life. He has gotten caught up with materialistic things which are something a lot of men can relate to. Though Zolla is the main character, I would like to have seen a little more background on her husband Clayton. Over all, the book was insightful and both men and women can relate to the subject. I was also impressed with the questionnaire in the back of book for reading groups to discuss. I truly recommend Author Mary E. Glider's book, A Misrepresentation of Myself. Good luck on your future novels.

To Thyself Always Be True,

This review is from: A Misrepresentation of Myself (Paperback)
Have you ever decided to stay in a relationship for the sake of the relationship no matter how you feel, or if it is something you have decided you no longer need in your life? Perhaps it takes a chance meeting someone else to help you see the true health of your relationship; what should you do? Author Mary E. Gilder shares in A Misrepresentation of Myself how we should do all that we can to stay true to who we are in spite of our relationship(s) with others. It appears that Zolla Ramsey has it all...the clothes, the house in an affluent neighborhood, the husband that has no problem giving her everything she can ever ask for. But what about her true heart's desire? Is living in a gated community and accumulating beautiful, material things the answer to the emptiness and depression Zolla feels? When Zolla met attorney Maxwell Garrison, her reaction to him was far from what her character would ever suggest, especially in a professional setting. However, Zola could not deny what she was feeling, and how it fulfilled her in a way she could not have ever imagined. As Zolla and Maxwell's relationship grew, Zola realized that he was indeed her true soul mate; a connection outside of her marriage. It was something she despised in others, her mother in particular. How could Zola have such a connection to a man that she was not married to, and what should she do about a relationship that seemed to complete who she is? One wonders if it is absolutely possible to find their soul mate after they have committed themselves to another in marriage, and yet be honest enough with themselves to admit that it is so, that it could it be real. A Misrepresentation of Myself encourages everyone to be honest with themselves first, in order to find their way to what is real and true in their lives and relationships. I recommend this book to those who love romance and true love. This book was provided to me courtesy of the publisher for review purposes. Review by Sharel E. Gordon-Love APOOO BookClub

When Zolla Ramsey's relationship falls apart due to the loss of a child, she took the right steps to get out of that situation. She sets out to find true love and vows to herself that she will never again settle for less.I loved the story and understood the message behind it. "Don't lose yourself trying to please someone else." True love only comes around every blue moon and I loved the characters in this book. Her friends were lively and seemed very real. I also liked how the book ended. It gave me a chance to know what to expect from her next book, (I hope it's the sequel) and trust me, I want more! There was not a single thing that I disliked about this book, I've got my fingers crossed for that sequel! Reviewed by: Ashley Mattox [...]

Emotional Deficit,

This review is from: A Misrepresentation of Myself (Paperback)
In our society when introductions are made we address couples as Mr.. & Mrs. It's as if the woman has no identity I believe in part that's how Zolla felt along with having an early withdrawal of emotions in her marriage.Misrepresentation of Myself was a quick and enjoyable read which leaves the reader looking in the mirror. Some women can live happily on material things; Zolla Ramsey needed more. Her husband Clayton was a good provider; but when it came to giving of "himself" he wasn't able. Clayton misrepresented himself as well in the beginning he was more in touch with Zolla and connected more with her wants and needs. Emotionally this couple has a lot to deal with and it's not until a powerful distraction walks into their lives and recharge Zolla's emotions and challenges her out of her comfort zone. Ms. Gilder's characters could easily have been anyone of us as we relate in our marriages and relationships. I loved watching Zolla grow and the powerful Maxwell Garrison stay true to his self. Thank you for a grown folk book Missy Readers Paradise 4 Book marks

Reflections Through a Glass House,

This review is from: A Misrepresentation of Myself (Paperback)
"A Misrepresentation of Myself", by author Mary Gilder, takes off from page one and continues to mesmerize the reader until the last page!Everyone on the outside of Dr. Zolla Ramsey's glass house thought she had it all - beauty, education, financial stability, a successful therapy practice, a wonderful marriage to a handsome and successful man, a beautiful home in a prominent location of Chicago, and every materialistic item money can buy. Can money buy love and/or happiness? In Zolla's perfect utopia - no. She is unhappy and is on a unfulfilled journey in an attempt to come full circle with herself and her life. Along the way, you will meet a host of other characters in Zolla's life - Clayton, her handsome, self-absorbed husband, Zolla's best friends - the outspoken, confident, Leena; Zolla's youngest friend, the naïve, spiritual, and optimistic, Fay; and last but not least, Maxwell who will turn Zolla's life upside down (mine too!). Many readers will be able to relate to this novel - an unhappiness that is deeper than anything imaginable and one day - something or someone (or both) throws a small pebble, rock, or brick at Zolla's perfect little glass house, and all hell breaks loose. Zolla soon discovers that her glass house is shattered and for once, she does not have all the answers, and she will be forced to make decisions that will change her life forever. Get ready....set....go! You will find yourself on a thrilling reading rollercoaster ride of your life, and along the way, you may learn a few things about yourself. The author weaves a poignant tale about a woman on a journey of self-reflection. Once Zolla looked outside of her glass house, she was free of misrepresenting herself. This book will generate an excellent book discussion! I highly recommend it and I genuinely look forward to future novels by the author! A Misrepresentation of MyselfHow many of us have allowed our perception of an occurrence from our childhood dictate our adult views? Zolla, did what many of us do all the time. I am not one who believes in leaving a marriage to pursue someone, so the flow in which the author choose to relay the message pleased me. Zolla didn't leave one marriage and jump in the arms of another. She took some time to know who she was. As women we often take advice from our girlfriends. Zolla allowed her friends to weigh in on her situation but she ultimately had the final say in the matter. "A Misrepresentation of Myself" is the "Waiting Exhale" for the 2011 woman. The suspense of this novel keep me on my toes. I was unable to relinquish this book once starting. Needless to say, I completed the novel in 2 days. This is an absolute must read! Candidly written and entertaining, the writer manages to uncover some of the most intriguing mysteries of a woman and what she really wants. Zola takes you on a journey of her day to day life with her chosen profession, a complacent marriage, her unique friendships, and a new attraction which jolts her structured life. She also shares glimpses of her past, and how she comes to a realization that sooner or later, the issues she has been concealing and avoiding will continue to haunt her until she makes the dreaded decision to confront them. In so doing, Zola is faced to search her deepest fears and desires. This book will inspire the reader on a quest for self reflection and a higher awareness of her true self.My hat off to a remarkable author and woman on her debut novel!

Mary E. Gilder's first novel was an excellent page turner. I read the entire book in a sitting. I could not put it down. The characters were well developed and memorable. The story was one that was true to life and so right on. It was inspiring how Zolla realizes that she is not being fulfilled regardless of all of the material things she has in life. She makes a gallant effort to turn things around and get what she needs from her husband. After he refused to opened himself up to really loving her, she is able to be strong enough to do something about it. I say Bravo Mary. I simply loved this book and I am so looking forward to your next.Raenette Sanders Turning Pages Bookclub-Northern California |
