Book Description

May 2009 Playaway Adult Fiction
College senior Lily Madison is on her own and desperate to pay for her last semester of school. With nowhere to turn, she makes the difficult decision to donate her eggs to a fertility clinic. Peter Kelly is also a penniless student who supplements his tuition money by visiting a sperm bank. One day, Lily and Pete meet at the clinic and talk about their secret. They agree the clinic gives them an odd feeling, as if all is not as it seems. Despite their obvious attraction, Lily and Pete go their separate ways. Nineteen years have passed and Lily often wonders if she has a child somewhere in the world. She also thinks a lot about Pete. Now a wealthy entrepreneur, Pete never forgot Lily either, and when he sees her in an airport one day, he falls for her all over again. But while they enjoy their unlikely reunion, a story on the news has them riveted. Two teenage boys are missing and their disappearance may be linked to the fertility clinic Pete and Lily visited in college. In a shocking twist, one of the boys looks exactly like Pete. Lily and Pete are now determined to find out what really went on at the clinic all those years ago. When the whole story comes out, the truth will be more than they bargained for. But they will discover that letting go of their secrets from the past is the best way to build a future worth fighting for…

From Publishers Weekly

Featuring love-at-second sight romance and a fast-moving plot, Michael's fizzy latest about illegal experiments on humans is farfetched but entertaining. Peter Kelly and Lily Madison regret choices they made in 1986 as impoverished college students when they first met outside a sperm bank and its adjacent fertility clinic. Years later, Pete's a software mogul and Lily's a successful clothing designer, and they happen across one another at an airport, where they see a news broadcast about a massacre at the California Academy of Higher Learning. Featured on the report is Josh, a survivor and dead ringer for Pete. Soon, Peter and Lily are on a quest for answers about some sinister dealings at the sperm bank and fertility clinic, Josh becomes a suspect, and a colorful cast of crusaders and villains gets sucked into the fray. Michael makes the wild search a roller-coaster ride of serendipitous fun. (May)

From Booklist

Financially desperate students at Berkeley, Peter and Lily resort to selling their genetic material to a local fertility clinic. They do not know each other, but each of them decide on the same day that it is their last time. When Peter and Lily literally run into each other, they share the same sadness over what they’ve done and agree that it felt like something nefarious was going on. Peter vows to return when he’s made his first million and burn the place to the ground. Years later, Peter, now a billionaire, and Lily, a successful designer, each use the excuse of a Berkeley reunion to revisit the clinic. Shocked to see each other at the airport, they are far more alarmed by a massacre at a California school. Only a couple of students, presumably the gunmen, survive, and Peter is stunned to see that one of the boys looks just like him. It is now more urgent than ever for them to join forces in this thrilling tale of secret genetic experimentation. --Maria Hatton --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time!, May 6, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I usually always love Fern Michaels books so I was excited to read this new release! The title certainly intrigued me "Mr and Miss Anonymous." The book starts out okay with Peter Kelly making deposits to the local sperm bank to finance his college education. On his last visit to the infamous sperm bank, he runs into a pretty co-ed Lily Madison who was also on her last donation of her eggs to the donor clinic to pay for HER last semester of her education. They run into each other one last time before they go off to individually achieve fame and fortune but alas, they never forgive themselves for their sperm and egg deposits and never forget their encounter.

Okay, sounds interesting - I think I'll bite and read some more. At this point, the book just meanders into a murder mystery - who murdered twelve teenagers at the group home - does one of the teenagers who escaped look just like Pete - is it a coincidence? Where does the requisite senator maybe running for the executive office fit into this? There's more - we have the teenaged boy who escaped who hears dead people! Oh wait - now we have flamboyant reporter Tessie Dancer getting involved to write the story to win a Pulitzer, an assassin and you won't believe this - the wonderful German Shepherd - will the dog save the day?

I am wondering why Kensington Books didn't take more time to edit this book and work out all the kinks in the storyline before the book was published. The barebone story is okay - this book does not do Fern Michaels justice.

Don't waste your time!

1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst books I've read, May 14, 2009

Like the previous reviewer, I usually love her books. However, this was truly one of the worse books I've read. The dialogue was juvenile and seemed to be written for a teenager. Again, I enjoyed her other books, but this one wasn't up to par - at all.

This book was excruciatingly painful to read. It was a horrible waste of time. I can't say I've ever been a fan of Fern Michaels (I think the Sisterhood books are awful and will never read another one!!) but this book was seriously torturous to read. The story is underdeveloped & unrealistic, the dialogue is horrendous and the characters are annoying! I wish I could give it ZERO stars!!!!!
