Hats Off to Miss Hunnicutt's Hat,
By
This review is from: Miss Hunnicutt's Hat (Hardcover)
When I learned that Jeff Brumbeau (author) and Gail deMarken (illustrator) of The Quiltmaker's Gift had collaborated once again on a children's book, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I knew it would be a story with a wonderful moral and that the illustrations would be beautiful. I was not disappointed in the least.Miss Hunnicutt's Hat tells a story for children of all ages about accepting people the way they are no matter what little idiosyncrasies they may have. What is considered "right" by the group is not always "right" for the rest of us. It teaches that, like Miss Hunnicutt, everyone should be true to herself, because you just never know when your ideas and dreams can grow to become the dreams of mankind. It shows that tolerance is a trait that should be taught early and often!

Wonderful illustrations accompany this lovely tale of a woman not afraid to stand up for her very different ideas. The illustrations alone are worth the book price. The empowering story makes it a fabulous addition to any child's library.

Miss Hunnicutt, You Rebel You,

This review is from: Miss Hunnicutt's Hat (Hardcover)
Miss Hunnicutt insists on her right to wear an eccentric (to say the least) hat even though the townspeople object. Ultimately, she gets the attention and approval of one pretty important person.

My daughter loved the "Quiltmaker's Journey" after hearing it in her 1st grade class, so I purchased "Miss Hunnicutt's Hat" as a Christmas gift. Recently, another girl made fun of some hairclips she was wearing in her hair which hurt her feelings. Miss Hunnicutt's Hat was perfectly-timed, a story about a woman who won't give in when her neighbor's ask her to stop wearing her unusual hat. A wonderfully written and illustrated story about being yourself.

Miss Hunnicutt is only a little quirky, but she sticks by her guns! Good for her! If you enjoy this story, check out The Big Orange Splot by Pinkwater. And, please, please teach your children that it is OK to be different!!

Delightful!,

This book is a whimsically sweet story with some of the most beautiful illustrations that I have ever seen in a children's book! Kudos to both the author & the illustrator.
