The book was in good condition however it was full of spiders. I killed three of them. Where ever the used book was stored did not protect it from insects.

5.0 out of 5 stars terrific Reconstruction Era Carolina Cousins thriller, July 3, 2007
This review is from: Miss Katie's Rosewood (Carolina Cousins #4) (Paperback)
Katie and Mayme leave their beloved Rosewood plantation in the Carolinas to travel by train to Philadelphia, but the latter is required to ride in the last car, the "Coloreds Only" coach. Upon reaching the city, a stunned Katie finds herself alone as the "Coloreds Only" car is missing. She fears her free friend may have been sold along with the other Negro passengers into slavery perhaps in the Caribbean. Deputy Rob Paxton offers to help find and if necessary rescue Mayme. He and Katie investigate.

At the same time back in the Carolinas the KKK plans to burn Rosewood to the ground as a warning for anyone else who upgrades slaves as equals to white folks. One lonely rider hopes to save the families residing there. However he has no idea how the mostly former slaves will react between fight and flight for the plantation is life to all of them and will continue to be so if he makes it on time.

This terrific Reconstruction Era Carolina Cousins thriller is a superb conclusion to one of the best nineteenth century Americana series on the market today. The story line is fast-paced and the key characters fully developed. However, it is the time period that so vividly comes alive as different forces vie for their vision of society in the aftermath of the destructive Civil War turning the "peace" into further hostility. MISS KATIE'S ROSEWOOD is an incredible historical that can be read alone but enhanced with the previous winning tales (see A PERILOUS PROPOSAL, THE SOLDIER'S LADY, and NEVER TOO LATE).

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Series, August 8, 2007

You definitely want to read this whole series to get the full benefit of the entire story. Definitely a great series and a very literal and true picture of what the south experienced during the Civil War and the reconstruction. Very quick reading, and of such a nature that even children 10-12 and up would enjoy if they love reading. I have found Christian Historical Fiction to be fantastic to wet the appetites of school-age children for aditional research and /or interest in historical time eras.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great from Michael Phillips, July 15, 2010

Having 5 girls, books that are wholesome but have depth are very important. I want my girls to enjoy the story, to be transported, but I also want them to increase their vocabulary and their own strength of character through the literature. That's a lot to ask of a book! Michael Phillips makes it possible with all of his titles, and this is no exception. This book will be crucial for anyone who's into the Carolina Cousins series. We will continue to collect his books.

I absolutely love this Christian author. I have the entire collection in the series. Each book is as intriguing as the next. When I finished reading the first novel, I had to get the others. I had read one out of sequence, but later bought them all and read each in sequence. I am presently reading the Soldiers Woman. I cannot wait for the next book in the series. I also give this particular series as gifts to friends in hospitals, and to youngsters. There is so little in the area of reading for young ones that is safe and balanced. I have purchased the books in bookstores at retail prices, but now I order them only from Amazon for half the price. If you are looking for historical fiction that is suitable for teens, young adults, and mature adults this is the series. The books have no occult themes, and the author handles historically delicate matters with such dignity. I would love to have this book on the required reading list at schools. Most of the books we have on the school reading list are chalk full of inappropriate and mature topics that are depressing, occult driven, violent, and manic.

I have thoroughly enjoyed Micheal Phillips cousin series, this one being the last one. These books would be good also for young readers. They really help point out what is important in life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miss Katie's Rosewood, August 13, 2007
This review is from: Miss Katie's Rosewood (Carolina Cousins #4) (Paperback)
I was thrilled with the whole series. I read all eight books (Shendoah Sisters and Carolina Cousins) in five weeks. I was glad that I had not started the series previously, that way I didn't have to wait on the next book.

I enjoyed the look into the Civil War times. It made me happy to be in the current time in history. I learned a lot about the life during that time.

I recommend this reading to everyone that enjoys a picture of how Christians live through trials and tribulations.

1.0 out of 5 stars False Teaching, January 23, 2008
This review is from: Miss Katie's Rosewood (Carolina Cousins #4) (Paperback)
I have read all of the other books in this series, and enjoyed them; sadly, however, Michael Phillips uses part of this one as a platform for proclaiming his false views of God and Scripture. The book promotes universalism and a false view of God, including the idea that all of God's attributes (such as His holiness and justice) are subjected to His goodness and love. The book also denigrates and wrongly explains the penal substitutionary view of the Atonement, that Christ propitiated the Father's wrath against sin. Altogether, I was extremely disappointed in this book, because of the false teaching presented therein. The story was nice--the heresy was not.
