Weak novel from a good writer,

This review is from: MISS MAMMA AIMEE (Hardcover)
Erskine Caldwell did a couple of GREAT novels, a few darned good ones, and a lot of ... Well. He did a lot of bad books. This is one of them.
The characters are stereotypes of southerners and the plot is too weak to matter. You may have read TOBACCO ROAD and GOD'S LITTLE ACRE. I recommend JOURNEYMAN and TROUBLE IN JULY. Beyond those four, pick up Caldwell at your own risk.
