Book Description

Would you like to live a beautiful life with less stuff?

This delightful collection of articles by Francine Jay, author of “The Joy of Less, A Minimalist Living Guide,” provides great inspiration to pare down your possessions. Jay breezes from practical topics, like “What’s in a Minimalist Kitchen” and “How Many Shoes are Enough,” to more philosophical musings, like what the Japanese or ancient Greeks can teach us about simple living.

Along with valuable tips and advice, the author shares her personal stories about decluttering and living with less. Her warmth, humor, and encouraging tone make you feel like you’re chatting with a good friend over a cup of coffee—a friend you’d love to invite over to clean out your closets!

These essays are a wonderful introduction to minimalist living, written by someone with a genuine passion for the topic. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by your clutter, or disenchanted with consumerism, you’ll find a kindred soul (and a wealth of advice) in Miss Minimalist. Best of all: you’ll likely empty a drawer or two by the time you’ve finished reading!

I've been a long-time fan of Francine Jay and her blog Miss Minimalist. When I found out she had a new kindle out for only 99 cents I hopped on it.

This kindle download is a compilation of 50 articles that are also available on her blog. If they're free on her blog, why did I spend a buck to buy them? Because I wanted the ease and convenience of having them at my fingertips. Now whether or not I'm connected to the internet I can get a dose of Francine's gentle inspiration any time I want it.

What's inside: It looks like Francine chose some of her heaviest-hitters for this Kindle download. There are the nitty-gritty action step articles for how to deal with clothes, shoes, kitchen clutter, etc. And then there are some exquisite nspirational pieces scattered in for seasoning that cover the more intrinsic aspects of living a happy, simplified life.

IMO you can't beat this bundle of articles for a buck. Yep, you can also go to her blog and read em' for free, but I love the easy access of having them in Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Minimalist Living Simplified June 14, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am not a minimalist by any means, but Ms. Minimalist thoroughly enticed me with her blog about simple living.

I stumbled across her site during a desperate attempt to declutter. Wow, less is actually more. How can that be? Logical? Maybe not in our consumer culture, but refreshing? It definitely is.

As a person who grew up thinking that abundance and excess were the norm, I appreciate Ms. Minimalist's approach to minimalism. She doesn't overcomplicate the idea of minimalism. Basically, you should dictate the course of your life; don't let (your) stuff do it for you. Let everything that you decide to keep have a purpose (or many purposes), and don't keep stuff just to have stuff. Know that it's ok to not have to keep up with the Joneses (who are actually having a hard time keeping up with themselves). You don't have to upgrade your cellphone whenever a new model comes out, or get a new car every few years, or spend umpteen hours and dollars taking pretty pictures to post on your Facebook account to outdo the Joneses (phew, thank goodness!)
There's wisdom in this kind of advice, a wisdom missing from our culture of consumerism that can be had by perusing the pages of this eBook, which is a compilation of 60 articles/ posts from her blog.

I don't know if i agree with everything in the book, but this is still comforting advice for hard times, compiled into a cute, easily accessible eBook that takes up no room at all and can be lent to your friends or anyone you see fit. Definitely worth the 99 cents.

5.0 out of 5 stars More Great Ideas to Declutter with a Personal Touch June 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I originally bought Francine's "Joy of Less" book that impacted my life considerably. I followed her method of decluttering and found the stress in my life melting away. When I saw her new book online, I decided to add it to my Kindle collection. The new book contains even more ideas which I'm anxious to try. What a bargain for 99 cents!
