3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD MATERIAL....BAD PRESSING
As the previous review indicates, had trouble with Track 20 "What A Little Moonlight Can Do". My first purchase at a store had 1/2 of Track 19 "Lover Man" and Track 20 with skipping or stopping. Upon exchange, the second time was just Track 20. I'm on my third go-around and waiting to see if "three is the charm". Other discs in this series that I've purchased have no...

I lost track of Crystal Gayle after switching from albums to CDs because her CDs were hard to find. Then I came across a used copy of These Days, a fantastic album, which has revived my interest in her. I bought Miss the Mississippi/These Days just for Miss the Mississippi, but now I can retire my previous version of These Days since the remastering of the double CD is so superior. My copy doesn't skip, so Edsel might have fixed the problem. If yours skips, try cleaning your laser lens, which can make a difference. I've ordered a couple of more Crystal Gayle double CDs and look forward to their arrival.

I was thrilled to see these remastered two albums on one cd releases from Crystal Gayle. This whole series represents her in her prime and the two albums on this cd were my absolute favorites. I was nervous after reading that everyone seemed to have a problem with track 20. Well, I lucked out. Also, I purchased my copy new from an Amazon store. When I first played it I held my breath when track 19 and then 20 played. Smooth sailing and I have played it at least 6 times now.

Enough cannot be said of the quality of the remastering. For anyone wondering, the quality is so excellent that it sounds like new music just recorded today. Crystal's voice is crisp and clear as is the music. Any fan will be delighted.

The songs here are from the two albums that are the most country pop out of her repertoire and we have classic singles HALF THE WAY, THE OTHER SIDE OF ME and TOO MANY LOVERS. There are some superior cuts THE BLUE SIDE, DANGER ZONE, IF YOU EVER CHANGE YOUR MIND, YOU'VE ALMOST GOT ME BELIEVING and LOVER MAN. Then there are the pure country tracks where Crystal's pure vocal talents always soar like MISS THE MISSISSIPPI AND YOU, TAKE IT EASY and WHAT A LITTLE MOONLIGHT CAN DO.

I find all of these songs hits with no misses. MISS THE MISSISSIPPI and THESE DAYS are classic Crystal Gayle and a must for all Crystal fans as well as fans of quality music. Crystal Gayle is a true artist and though recorded in 1979 and 1980 these albums are in no way dated. This is superb quality music remastered for the best quality possible. And good luck with track 20. Hopefully it was a fluke on just a few copies for as I said, mine plays fine.

Highly recommend.

Upon exchange, the second time was just Track 20. I'm on my third go-around and waiting to see if "three is the charm". Other discs in this series that I've purchased have no flaws at all. It just seems to be this first one. Since different dealers are having similar issues with the product, definitely a mastering problem at Edsel.

3 stars are for the recorded material. Crystal's first two Columbia albums have been favorites. Just need the new CD issue to play correctly all the way through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Daring choices for a Country Artist, May 28, 2009

This review is from: Miss the Mississippi/These Days (Audio CD)
My copy also had problems with Track 20, but my review is over the music itself. Boy do I remember riding in the car with my parents as a child and listening to our 8-track of Miss the Mississippi. This album is full of great songs, but as always, Crystal never settled for singing only country songs. She added her own flavor to pop songs like Half the Way and Danger Zone. And boy did she have fun with Room for One More and A Little Bit of the Rain. Classic album

Her most daring album had to be These Days because there's not one country song on it. If You Ever Change Your Mind and Too Many Lovers were both #1 country hits, but this is mostly a mixture of blues and jazz. Crystal proved that she was a force to be reckoned with by belting out some great vocals on this impressive collection of songs. This album shows more than any the incredible range that Crystal could sing.

This will be a great disc to add to your collection for sure.

ALL IS FINE UNTIL TRACK #20. AT 30 SECONDS INTO THE SONG THE CD STARTS PLAYING VERY FAST. IT WAS PLAYED ON A CD PLAYER AT A FRIEND'S PLACE OF BUSINESS. I'LL HAVE TO TRY IT IN MY CAR AND AT HOME TO HEAR IF IT DOES THE SAME THING.

I had to rewrite my review after recieving this CD. It played EXCELLENT.

Absolutely NO PROBLEMS. Apparently past problems with sound and skipping have

been resolved. This is some if Crystal's very best. (The pictures on the cover are great also - love it).
