Miss Read's Christmas book is one that I reach for every December no matter how busy I am. It is a quick read that gives an enviable glimpse into Christmas in an English country village. Miss Read's characters and events are charming without being silly and simplistic. Although it may not be a realistic portrait of life in the 90's it seems to point to a lifestyle that many of us are trying to reach.
