3.0 out of 5 stars For story lovers
Okay, so the idea of books coming to life isn't exactly original, but it's still an idea I adore. Just because it would be fun. And this book does a great job of demonstrating that fun. Hooray for all of that. It's a pretty simple story, but it gets the story told. What is best about this is the stunning pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars Encourage Reading, September 17, 2003
This review is from: Miss Smith's Incredible Story Book (Hardcover)
I was looking through children's books at the book store and immediately this one caught my eye. I have read several Michael Garland books to my twins and they have loved his stories and illustrations. This one is no different. I laughed aloud at the store as I turned the pages. I thought of all of those wonderful teachers out there that encourage reading in their students because they are fantastic story readers. I immediately ordered the book for my son's teacher (who happens to have short spikey hair like Miss Smith). What a wonderful book to give as a gift to a child and a teacher!

5.0 out of 5 stars SHOWS THAT READING IS FUN!, November 19, 2003
This review is from: Miss Smith's Incredible Story Book (Hardcover)
Michael Garland's high powered imagination and razzle-dazzle illustrations bring the story of a one-of-a-kind teacher to energetic life. There's zip and color on every page plus a lesson for all.

Zack is a pretty disheartened young fellow. It's the first day of school, and he's sure the semester will be as boring as ever. Suddenly a small ball of fire whips through the door in the person of Miss Smith, a new teacher. She is unlike any teacher Zack has ever known because when she reads to the class from her story book, the characters actually come to life. There are swashbuckling pirates so real that Zack could actually feel waves pounding against the sides of their pirate ship. And then, when she finished reading "all the characters and adventure whooshed back into her book."

From then on Zack couldn't wait to go to school.

One day when Miss Smith was stuck in traffic and couldn't reach the school, others read from her book and the same amazing things happened. Except for one problem: the storybook characters didn't want to return to the book once the story was over. That could make for a very crowded room!

"Who would ever have guessed that reading could be so much fun?"

I found this book at the book store just the other day. I read it to my daughter's 1st grade class this afternoon. Only one or two of the 16 children had seen/heard of it before. They loved it. They were straining to see the wonderful bright colored pictures more closely before we passed it around. They enjoyed picking out familiar characters in the illustrations. They appreciated the humor of Principal Rittenrotten's predicament. They all agreed that it would be neat if characters really came out of books. The length/number of words is just right for this age to hear or read themselves.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Miss Smith's Incredible Story Book (Hardcover)
This is a great book to read if you like a story that mixes all the characters from many different tales. It is humorous, exciting, great words and many other tings that you will find out when you read it. The main character is Zack, and Miss Smith. She has a great book to read to Zack`s class. This book is about how Zack went to the first day of class. He thought that it was going to be boring so he was bored until..... his teacher came to the class. He was thinking that all his teachers were pretty much the same but this teacher was cool looking. The teacher said story time and she began to read.If you want to know the stories she read, you have to read it for your self. You should read this book to find great excitement.

4.0 out of 5 stars Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook, June 8, 2007
Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook by Michael Garland was wonderful! Miss Smith is a teacher with the magical ability to read stories out of books, creating a fantastic show each day during story time. When each story ends, the characters jump back into the book, returning the second grade classroom to normal, but always leaving the children enchanted. When Miss Smith is late one day, the principal takes over her job of reading to the children and is horrified to find book characters in the classroom and doesn't realize that by simply finishing the story, the characters will return to their story land, creating immense chaos in the room.

The story is humorous enough, but the illustrations are just fantastic in this book. Lots of bright colors will draw a child's eye all over the pages and the depictions of famous storybook characters are perfect. I love this book and am anxious to read the sequel. I've ordered if for our library, but the waiting period stinks!

This review is from: Miss Smith's Incredible Story Book (Hardcover)
I think that this book is great because it has so many pictures. When Miss Smith is reading the characters jump out of the books. The pictures make the characters come to life. It is fun to read the book because Miss Smith looks funny. It was fun to find the different characters from the all the fairy tales.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Miss Smith's Incredible Story Book (Hardcover)
Miss Smith's Incredible Storybook is a wonderful book full of fantasy.

When the class was an about to start Zack thought that this year will be as boring as last year. Until Miss Smith enter to the room and said "Good morning class." Zack thought that that it was way more different from the other teachers(it had spiky hair.)When ever she tells a story all the characters come alive. One day Miss Smith couln't go to school and the principal needed to read!!! What do you think the principal would say? What would happen?

I recomend this book to kids 4-9. Parents will enjoy reading it to their children also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miss Smith makes bookworms out of her kids!, August 26, 2011
When Zack and his classmates start second grade, they fear that it will be boring like the year before. Little do they know what amazing adventures await them. In walks Miss Smith, a cheery personality with a quirky and eccentric manner about her, and it turns out she has some hidden talents!

Miss Smith possesses a magical, incredible storybook which brings the stories she reads aloud to vibrant life! The characters from well-known, familiar stories virtually leap off the pages and into the classroom. Miss Smith manages to keep things under control, as the stories must be read till the end to ensure the characters return into the book. However, things go terribly awry one day when Miss Smith is help up in traffic and Principal Rittenrotten reads the class a story from the magical book! Will Miss Smith return in time to restore order?

The story itself is a charming one and warmed my heart as much as it entertained my six-year-old, a self-avowed bookworm. Yet, the illustrations by author-illustrator Michael Garland merit praise as they are so vivid and detailed, and seem almost alive! We are hooked on Miss Smith and her Incredible Storybook and are sure others will enjoy her as much as we did!

The pictures in this story are fabulous. They're colorful and nicely drawn. The story is exciting to a young reader also. My six year old son and I read it at least once a week.
