5.0 out of 5 stars This Book is wonderful!
This book has the best colors that I have ever seen. My Daughter loves it. I will get the rest of David Kirks books for her!

1.0 out of 5 stars missing letter "G"
This book is beautiful and inventive as everyone says, but ours is missing the letter "g." How does that happen? The facing pages have earthworms entertaining fireflies as they fandango, then on to hummingbirds hiding inside irises. Where's the g? If we got a bad book, how does that work? All of the other letters are there. It seems like there'd be another missing...

By A Customer
This review is from: Miss Spider's Abc Book (Hardcover)
we gave miss spiders abc to our daughter for her first birthday. the paintings are so bright and active...unlike those in any other book, that she loves them. she's also started to learn her abc's, and the words happy birthday.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, but..., May 11, 2003

This is a wonderful ABC. David Kirk's illustrations are vivid and consume the whole page with color. His text is poetic (eg, termites tunnel underneath very vivid violets). I have only two small criticisms:

1. The alphabet letters are highly stylized. Very young children may have difficulty recognizing them because of the extra curlicues and whatnot.

2. My copy of this book had two W and X pages, but no Y and Z page. Obviously I'd like my children to learn the last two letters of the alphabet as well as the first 24.

Because of David Kirk's beautiful style, however, I still read this to my children several times a day. They love Miss Spider and the world of tiny bugs she inhabits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Fun, July 21, 2000

On the way to work the other morning I realized that I have this entire book memorized. "Ants await, Bumble Bees blow balloons..."

I purchased this book when my daughter was 5 months old because I was attracted to the beautiful illustrations. My daughter loves the book. She is now 13 months old and says "book" and always grabs "Miss Spiders ABCs". It is her favorite out of about 2 dozen books. She even kisses the spider on the "Red Roses shelter smiling spiders" page. I would recommend this book to all babies and tiny tots as well as all art lovers, bug lovers and anyone with a good sense of humor!

My 18 month old son loves the Miss Spider books!! He is learning his ABC's by my reading Miss Spider's ABC book to him. He also has learned his numbers from the Miss Spider's Tea Party (A Counting Book). He brings me these books to read to him all of the time. He loves them. The illustrations are so vivid and beautiful! I will be buying the Miss Spider books he does not have for Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absoloutely Entertaining for Your Preschooler, September 28, 2010
This review is from: Miss Spider's Abc Book (Hardcover)
Miss Spider's ABC book is a cute book that entertwines alphabetical words to introduce all the letters of the alphabet with a fun tale. I think that David Kirk did a fabulous job with the drawings to help the letters come to life. The end brings a bit of a surprise ending to tie it all together!

If your child likes bright colors, bugs and reading then this is the book for you. I read with children at our elementary school and the little ones loved the bugs and critters.

5.0 out of 5 stars my son's first favorite book, October 26, 2004

This is a great book for a young child. The bright illustrations and the engaging text have kept my son entertained for many months, and he in turn has kept me entertained, as he fandangos with the fireflies, kisses the katydid and laughs with the ladybugs.
At least as important as the entertainment is the fact that at 22 months, my son is learning to recognize the letters of the alphabet and the different sounds that they make, and he has been exposed to words, like fandango, that probably would not have come up in our every day world.

I'm in it for the vibrant colors! Beautiful sweeping illustrations and bold looks. Ok, maybe a little for the unusual theme of BUGS, but I think this little book is so marvelous.
It goes through the ABC's of bugs prepping for a surprise birthday party for Ms. Spider. Very cute; rhyming and everything.
Car reading for toddlers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amusing Book for All Ages!, May 26, 2000
I purchased Mrs. Spider's ABC's when my daughter was just 6 months old. Since that time, we read it everday. The pictures captivated her initially, but as she gets older we can talk more about each page. I can see this book being a favorite of hers and mine for some time to come.
