5.0 out of 5 stars The story is fun but the pictures are what make this book!!
Miss Spider's Tea Party is a simple story that introduces children to simple counting from 1 to 10. The illustrations are extremely colourful and visually stimulating for both children and parents (or grown ups like me who bought it for themselves). It's a great story that no bookself should be without - a classic kids book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Buyer beware - river-city-books
This book has awesome pictures and a cute Mrs Spider doll, however the seller (river-city-books)that I purchased the book and toy from did not ship the doll with the book eventhough they advertized it book with toy...so buyer beware...

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story, Excellent Book!, March 11, 2001

This review is from: Miss Spider's Tea Party (Hardcover)
I had first gotten this book when I went to my sons book fair at school. My 1 yr old daughter immediately fell in love with it and I have been reading it to her ever since. She loves the beautiful graphics in the story, and the wonderful rhyming keeps her tuned into the story. We have even made up little motions to go along with the story so she can participate actively in the story. I recommend this book to any parent, I believe this book has helped my daughter to start sounding out words already, and I feel confident that she will be an avid reader because of books like this. David Kirk does a wonderful job as a story teller, and I cannot wait to read all his childrens books to my own 3 children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vividly Gourgeous Illustrations-A Joy to Read!, October 13, 2002

~ Miss Spider's Tea Party is one of those children's books that brings delight to the adult reader as well as the child.
~ The illustrations are beautiful and vividly intricate, but not too complex for children to enjoy, the story has a very gentle wit, that adults will appreciate.
~ Poor Miss Spider invites all kinds of insects to tea, but for some reason they seem reluctant to befriend her. : - )

~ Happily, her naturally sweet charm wins her popularity in the insect kingdom over, as well as a true fan in the reader. Children really seem to love this simple tale, mostly for the beauty of the illustrations, and the sense of a happy conclusion approaching.

I highly recommend this as a book you can enjoy reading with your child. And I would definitely also recommend the sequel "Miss Spider's Wedding"!

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't like this book....., March 12, 2002
This review is from: Miss Spider's Tea Party (Hardcover)
BUT, my daughter loves it. It is one of her favorites, and unfortunately.. I have it memorized! She loves the rhyme, and looking at the different bugs. The bugs are very colorful. I guess the true test is in how much the child likes the book, hence the 5 star rating!

5.0 out of 5 stars I fell in Love with Miss Spider at her tea party!, February 4, 2000
This review is from: Miss Spider's Tea Party (Hardcover)
I happened upon Miss Spider about three years ago at the Denton public library. At the time my daughter was 3, I love the prose, I love the art, I love Miss Spider!

David Kirk does a wonderful job of creating an adorable "mis-fit" Miss Spider is so misunderstood! None of the other bugs want to come to tea. The story breaks your heart then shows how persistance and kindness pay off!

My daughter isn't as thrilled by the books as I am. but then again, I LOVE them. Thank God for people with such great imaginations as the author and illustrator of the Miss Spider series. I recommend Miss Spider to everyone, not just kids, the lessons are profound and the flowing prose style is wonderful. This is my very favorite book to read to children. I am a life long fan of Kirk!

....and for Mom (me), it's a joy to read out loud - the poetry is graceful, smooth and lilting. The moral of the story (not judging people by their appearances) is immediately understood by young children.

5.0 out of 5 stars This was a wonderful story!, March 26, 1999

I found this book to be an excellent choice for many reasons. First, the colors were incredible and really captured the readers interest. Secondly, the rhyming format of the story is a wonderful choice and is quite an effective tool for the young reader to grasp concept. Finally, the use of counting strenghthens a students ability to learn number order as well as number recognition. I feel this would be a wonderful addition to any young readers library.

I have loved this book since it first came out. The pictures are beautiful- very detailed and fun to look at. I have never seen such pretty flowers and colors in a children's book. Since reading this book, I am a big fan of Miss Spider and collect Miss Spider toys, books, etc. The story sends a very good message to kids. The story rhymes which makes it fun to read aloud.
