5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Artwork
This book has some of the most beautiful artwork you will ever see in a children's book. My 17 month old took a few tries to warm up to the story, and it still isn't a favorite of hers. A lot of times we will just sit and look at the pretty pictures.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lovely illustrations, terrible message
After seeing so many positive reviews and checking out the preview available I was certain this book was going to be a great addition to my daughter's library. Yes, the illustrations are gorgeous, but the content is dominated by unexplained acts of social rejection. If your child is at an age where discussions of stereotyping and ostracism are appropriate, this book...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Way to Learn Counting, October 29, 2001

What's really interesting about this book is the art work. Your child would be mesmerized with the vibrant colors, beautiful and detailed artwork. These elements work to get your child interested in the book. What's more, there's a simple story that goes with it which makes the book fun to read. Eventually, your children will learn to count after reading the book over and over and over again. (You know kids, once they like a book, they'll ask you to read it for umpteen times!). Thus, our intention of wanting them to learn or wanting to introduce them to numbers is finally achieved. It is done subconsciusly, which is good, coz we don't want them to feel stress out. The interest just comes along on its own without us forcing it through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly wonderful, August 15, 2000

This is a wonderful book. I have been reading it to my 2 3/4 son for the past year and he loves it. The book is full of wonderfully colored illustrations that are very eye catching. My only complaint is that some of the pages are very busy which makes it difficult to find and count some of the insects. But, this is a minor complaint.

5.0 out of 5 stars An enthusiastic "Thumbs Up!" from my son, July 22, 2000

This is a beautifully illustrated board book. My 10-month-old son picks it out of his book bag again and again. He loves to turn the pages and runs his fingers over many of the pictures as if trying to pluck the items off the page. My personal favorite is number 8 (butterflies hiding in a gorgeous bouquet of flowers), but my son seems to prefer the four rubber bugs.

Another feature that I like about it is that the numbers go up to twelve. So many counting books end at ten; this is a welcome change. The only negative thing I can come up with is that it is sometimes a bit challenging to find the identified number of things listed in the illustration, but I think that will be part of the fun for my son as he gets a bit older.

I was so thrilled to find Miss Spider in a BOARD BOOK! This book works wonders in keeping my 8 month old quietly entertained during church. She loves looking at the brightly colored illustrations. I should also mention the excellent durablity of this book easily stands up to a child this age. Love the book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for babies!, October 12, 2004
This review is from: Miss Spider's Tea Party: The Counting Book (Board book)
My 6 month old has liked this book since he was 4 months old. Now his face lights up with a big smile when I pull it out. Sometimes he even starts to fuss when I put it away! The illustrations are just so vibrant and colorful that he's mesmerized by it. I really really wish I could find more books like this. I've looked everywhere! This is definitely a best buy for parents who want to start reading to baby at an early age.

5.0 out of 5 stars We love Miss Spider!, May 26, 2000

This review is from: Miss Spider's Tea Party: The Counting Book (Board book)
Miss Spider's Tea Party: The Counting Book, is a favorite of my 10 month old. I have been reading it to her since she was 6 months old. It is by far her favorite among all of her board books. She is captivated by the vivid art work and loves the rhythm of the story. I was so pleased with it that I bought it for my 2 year old niece. It has become her favorite. The board book stands up to wear and tear. I highly recommend this book all the way around!

This is currently my 2 year old son's favorite book. He even has it memorized. He recites it when the book is nowhere in sight! The story is darling and the illustrations are just wonderful. David Kirk is so so imaginative and so so unique. I hope he does more NICE stories.

The colors and images fascinate my little boy (20 months). The other Miss Spider book we own has similar effect. He's not as captivated by the rhythm and pace as he is by other books.
