I read the raving reviews of this book and curiosity got the best of me. Our library did not have a copy so I had to buy it to see why every reviewer gave 5 stars! It is a nice book that is actually well written and a delight to read. I knew nothing of this book until I bought it, but I think 30 years from now this will be one of the books that my daughter looks back on fondly.

Miss Suzy where are you?,
By Andrew B. Laidlaw (Kirkland, Washington) - See all my reviews

Although itŐs been almost 30 some years since I have seen a copy of this book itŐs still burned into my mind. Miss Suzy is a wonderful story of a Squirrel almost bullied from her treehouse. She recruits the help of some toy soldiers long packed away in the attic. Miss Suzy is a great children's book! This was the book I lived in as a child.

This was my very favorite book as a small child, and I love sharing it with my daughter now! I was three when I discovered Miss Suzy in preschool. Our teacher let a different child pick a book for the class each day, and every time it was my turn, I wanted her to read "Miss Suzy"! I still have two copies from my childhood, but I was thrilled when the anniversary edition was released, and I could buy a new copy (plus two backups, just in case!) for my daughter! The illustrations are captivating, and the story of kindness and helping others hits home with kids. And Miriam Young makes this lesson interesting for children by incorporating toy soldiers, a dollhouse with a four poster bed and squirrels, among other things that children find fascinating. What a wonderful book, and what joy I find in reading it to my child! This book, in my opinion, is a book all children (especially little girls!) should read!

A Book That Needs to be Revived!,
By P. Johnson (Hacienda Heights, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Miss Suzy (Library Binding)
For some reason, when I was a young mother,I didn't think ahead enough to realize that some of the wonderful books I purchased and read to my children wouldn't continue to be available for ever! I have been very disappointed to awaken to the fact that books like Miss Suzy, which all eight of our children loved and could tell you in detail today, are not readily available to this generation of children. To this day, our children (ranging in ages from 11 to 32) and I have fun reminiscing and quoting parts of Miss Suzy when we get together! I would love to have copies to give my grandchildren--with nothing changed. I love the story and the drawings exactly as they are. Miss Suzy was one story I thoroughly enjoyed reading over and over again when the children asked for it; Miss Suzy was so brave, loving and positive no matter what her circumstances. Let's revive Miss Suzy! :-)

Another winner from PURPLE HOUSE PRESS!,

Purple House Press has done it again.....republished an out-of-print book that was a childhood favorite for so many. As a young girl in the early 1970's, I loved this book. I found it again at a local library a couple of years ago and was thrilled to be able to share it with my children. Unfortunately, that library copy has now been lost and so my children lost their chance of happily reading this book over and over again. But thanks to the Purple House Press folks, I can now affordably purchase my own copy so my little ones (and I) can enjoy this charming tale as many times as we like.

This is my favorite book from childhoood!,

Miss Suzy is a sweet tree squirrel who's home is overtaken by evil squirrels. She is offered the help of toy soldiers to get her home back. Her favorite thing to do is cook and clean as she sings, "Oh, I love to cook, I love to bake, I think I'll bake an acorn cake!"
My father read this book to me every night for years and I deeply regret selling it at a garage sale when I was 12. I've searched for Miss Suzy for years. Please, Amazon, find this amazing book for me. Thanks!

Miss Suzy needs a reprinting!,

My sister and I were read Miss Suzy when we were very little. I don't remember all that much about it, except that Miss Suzy was my favorite squirrel and the toy soldiers and it was just a wonderful children's book. Now that I'm pregnant with my first child, I want him/her to have this book too. It needs to be reprinted!

this book shows the beauty of kindness to strangers and the joy of making true friends. at a time when our world is filled with people who lose their homes w/o recourse, this book portrays an animal accepting the loss of their home with their head held high. bullies are then put in their place, and the main character begins anew with calm joy in her heart. i hope to read this for many years to come, and i recommend it to all parents and teachers.

One of the best children's books ever,
By Hinkle Goldfarb (R.R. 1 Highway 162, Butte City, California) - See all my reviews

This book captured my imagination as a five-year-old and has remained with me ever since. It's a tale of right and wrong, good and evil, of loss, love, friendship, and doing the right thing under adverse circumstances. It is, in other words, the complete opposite of the postmodern relativistic drivel so common in today's children's books.
Highly, highly recommended. |
