5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful story of fun, friendship & authentic learning, October 12, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Miss Tizzy (Hardcover)
This delightful book should be read by everyone who works with young children in a learning environment! Miss Tizzy's real love of fun and of learning through play and experiences provides neighborhood children with all the tools they need to express their creativity and the wonder of their world. Using the every-day environment of her home, Miss Tizzy creates a place of learning and fun in which the children discover true friendship. In the end, they learn to give love and joy back to their special friend when she needs it the most. Illustrations in this book show refreshing ethnic diversity. Grab some tissue, because this book will truly touch your heart!

5.0 out of 5 stars And the children loved it...., April 5, 2006
Last Friday I had the pleasure of hearing this lovely book read to a classroom of second graders at Emery Elementary School in Washington, DC. The children were thrilled by the book's beautiful illustrations and uplifting message. They especially enjoyed joining in reciting the refrain, "And the children loved it." I highly recommend "Miss Tizzy," to anyone who wants a fun and inspiring book for children.

I discovered this book at the library and wanted to share it with all my friends. It's creative and quite touching. We should all want to have a friend like Miss Tizzy... or be her! Go get it and pass it on.

I and my students really enjoyed reading this story. It's a warm story that I'm sure touched home with a lot of my young students. They have older relatives who are often their primary caregiver and therfore they can relate to the story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book about diversity and more!, October 12, 2010
"Miss Tizzy" was a pleasant and fun read! Though my kindergartener is familiar with the calendar concept of days of the week, it was nice to see the days of the week reinforced in a fun manner. Miss Tizzy is a lovable character, one who is beloved by all the neighborhood children because of her kind disposition and warm heart. She does something special with the children each day of the week - baking cookies, gardening, telling stories, drawing, visiting sick older people and cheering them up, this lady is amazing! The neighborhood children can't get enough of her, and so when Miss Tizzy falls ill, they band together to cheer her up.

A simple story, Miss Tizzy delivers a powerful message, i.e. the importance of volunteering and caring for members of one's community, and embracing diversity. It was heartwarming to see both the young and the old cooperate and help out in the community. Highly recommended!

Miss Tizzy is who I want to be when "I grow up"!
As a former preschool teacher I have read this to many children. They always enjoyed hearing about the activities Miss Tizzy had planned for them each day of the week. A wonderful book for children and adults to share, providing the opportunity to talk about past experiences and the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully written and illustrated!, March 30, 2009

My son's 3rd grade teacher had this on her wish list so I got it and a few others for her Christmas basket. While I had never heard of it, once I read it I understood why she wanted it for the class room.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...and my children loved it!..., July 10, 2008
By

The storyline in this book is wonderful. I like it because it shows the importance of 'having fun' and 'believing in yourself' and most of all 'sharing what you have'. My children, ages 2 and 4, love this book! It is one I have to read almost every night. My four year old has memorized the entire book and can 'read' it to her brother. The illustrations are also beautiful. The children come from so many different cultural backgrounds - but it is not a part of the plot, only something for the readers to notice... is there someone who looks like me?

The main character takes time with the children and shares what she has. She never scolds (my daughter always asks about that). And then one day she is unable to do some of the things she normally does.... and the children come up with a plan.

The book may also lead to interesting discussions with children as to why peopel behave the way they do and what kinds of solutions we can come up with the counteract the 'bad' or 'misunderstood' feelings.

Mommy also loved this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, November 4, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This book is full of vibrant pictures that are eye-catching for children and adults alike. But, what I really loved is the story. Sweet Miss Tizzy loves children and has an independent mind, helping the children have fun and learn some valuable lessons in the meantime about caring for one another. It, along with Robert Munsch's "Love You Forever" is one of the few children's books that can make me cry. If you want your child to learn compassion, read this with them often!
