Book Description

November 2002 3 and up
Why did Miss Twiggley live in a tree? Why did she send her dog, Puss, out to do the shopping? Why did she always run away and hide when people came to visit? And it was rumored that Miss Twiggley had even more peculiar habits...

Old Miss Twiggley
Was friendly with bears.
"They shed on the sofa," she said,
"But who cares?"

And was it true, as the mayor's wife had heard, that she actually slept in her hat? "Simply disgraceful!" they said. But when a hurricane hits the town and the water rises, everyone is grateful to Miss Twiggley and her tree. Even better, Miss Twiggley herself learns a very important lesson, with a warm and happy ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars In 1st Grade Heaven Again July 11, 2005
Format:Hardcover
As a first grader, I used to check this book out of our classroom library to read and re-read. I even recall spending hours tracing the illustrations. However, as an adult, I could never remember the name of that favorite book. After years of searching in libraries and book databases for children's books with "willow trees," I finally did an Internet search using the same search criteria and was delighted to find not only the correct title and author information but also to discover that it has been reprinted. I have ordered a copy and am so excited to share this wonderful story with my son.

I have also discovered that there is a clay-mation video version. I haven't seen it, but I'm hoping to. It looks very good and has won several awards. [...]

This book is a terrific story for your kids of all ages. Don't hesitate to purchase a copy for your family!

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome home, Miss Twiggley November 21, 2002
Format:Hardcover
Over twenty years ago, when Miss Twiggley's Tree won the Parents' Magazine Press Award, the world was a very different place. Still, today's children share with their historic counterparts the need to find characters full of life and books full of whimsy and unpredictability. Dorothea Warren Fox's Miss Twiggley is such a character in such a book. Though afraid of the world around her, Miss Twiggley manages to put aside her fears to comfort her neighbors and lead them to safety. The message of thinking of others in a time of need is never more needed than today. Well written and beautifully illustrated, this re-release is a delightful resuurection of a timeless classic. Brought back to bookstore shelves and into children's lives, Miss Twiggley and her cherished pets still live in a tree, and will stay in the hearts and minds of children even forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny Miss Twigley lived in a tree... April 24, 2003
Format:Hardcover
This is the best children's book ever written! I read it so many times as a child I still have it memorized. Technically it was my older brother's book and I've been trying to find a copy for years. .... It's well written and illustrated and has a wonderful moral: it's okay to be different! Every child should have a copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for every childs' bookshelves! July 16, 2005
Format:Board book
I am so happy to have found this in print again. I frequently give this book as a gift to friends' children. The illustrations are beautiful and kids love the animals who are central characters alongside the people. It is also nice that several moral messages sneak so subtly into the story- we learn about how our preconcieved notions of people can be so wrong and of the main character overcoming her shyness when others are in need and being a great friend to them. I cannot praise this wonderful book enough!!! A must for every library!

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book!! June 19, 2003
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Miss Twiggley's Tree is a great ole time classic that both my mother and I have been able to share. This book has always been at my grandma's house and just this week i found it and was able to share it with some of my youngest cousins who fell in love with it also. My Grandma read it to my mom when it was first published, and now, i have been given it to be able to some day read it to my children.. If you are looking for a book to read to your children that they will be able to share with everyone they know, i strongly suggest this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great kids book December 28, 2002
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I can't count the number of times my sister and begged my mother to read this to us. Very enjoyable reading. Rhyming verses keep hold of the listeners and the pictures have many "discoveries" and discussion points.

Yet another book with a message about diversity, self worth and overcoming challenges. Glad it's back in print and it is another that I have passed down to the younger generation in my family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Miss Twiggley's Tree November 9, 2002
Format:Hardcover
This book was a favorite of mine as a child and I was thrilled to find it available again. The story teaches lessons on overcoming fears and showing compassion for your fellow man. I recommend it for many age groups. Since the story is written in poem form little ones love it as well. ...

5.0 out of 5 stars MISS TWIGGLEY'S TREE January 25, 2007
By E. Popp
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I knew before ordering that this book is at the very top of the FAVORITES list for myself, my children and grandchildren. MANY years ago I bought a well worn copy as a library discard in my local town library. I enjoyed reading it again and again to all my children and my grandchildren. I even photocopied it for a neighbor boy (who heard it with us when he was a child) so he could read it to his children. Recently I let my youngest daughter talk me out of my copy since she most often had my newest great-grandson in her care. Imagine my joy at hearing from a neighbor that it had been reprinted ! As you know, I purchased 6 copies for myself and family and I may need to get more to satisfy requests. I have never read a children's book that was requested more than this one and I never tire of rereading it. I am well over 13.....
