4.0 out of 5 stars Rikki is INCREDIBLY talented, but her albums cost a lot, August 11, 2006
By SephirothXIII "Seymour" (Portland, OR USA) - See all my reviews
Track List:
1. Kana Yo Nenneko Yo
2. Nobotan Nu Hana
3. Imujin Gawa
4. Mihachigatsu Nu Yoru
5. Ikyunnya Kana - Yoisura
6. Syumichinagahama
7. Matsuri Medley - Waido Bushi, Amakusa, Inesuri, Kuduki, Rokucho
8. Erabu Yuri No Hana
9. Agarisachi
10. Amami No Komori Uta

Rikki (Ritsuki Nakano), sings in traditional Japanese (Nihongo) style to traditional Amami island folk pieces (Amami shima uta) in this great album. Actually, she wrote some new lyrics or re-wrote some for several of the songs, and wrote one song by herself, "Nobotan Nu Hana," which turned out to be the second best song on the album. Her voice is hypnotic, and all the calmer songs are meditative and relaxing. These are, in my opinion, the four best songs on the album:
1. Mihachigatsu Nu Yoru: To be quite frank, this song's Polynesian/Native American-sounding opening sucks. But after that, Rikki comes in along with an utterly emotional piano part. The song sounds so very sad, lonely, and reflective. Beautiful.
2. Nobotan Nu Hana: Rikki did a wonderful job of writing this song. It sounds joyous instead of sad (a nice change), and I can just picture two people running about amongst a field of flowers when the chorus plays.
3. Matsuri Medley: I like "Waido Bushi" more than the other songs in the medley, but the entire piece is great. Turn this gradually speeding up, festival song on at occasions with dancing.
4. Syumichinagahama: This sad piece has a wonderful story behind it, as explained in the album booklet. It's pretty much a lesser version of "Mihachigatsu Nu Yoru."
Rikki's talent is unquestionable, but her albums cost a lot. I still recommend this album, but you have to like the music and be willing to spend a lot to find the buy worthwhile. I think it almost was, and more tracks would have helped. Still a recommended collection of songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars lovely!, April 23, 2005
By Kyoko "Kitsuneko" (O.C., California USA) - See all my reviews
This is a lovely cd which features traditional and new songs and instruments sung by Ritsuki Nakano (Rikki--singer of "Suteki da ne" from final fantasy x). Rikki has a very pretty voice and her music is very relaxing. I really like this cd a lot because of its traditional style and nice melodies. You may like another of her other cds, Shima Uta Trickles as well.
I find this to be a wonderful collection of japanese songs and am proud to add it to my library.
