Editorial Reviews

Enigk’s biggest claim to fame is his involvement with "Emo (music) emo rock band Sunny Day Real Estate Sunny Day Real Estate, who released five albums from 1993 to 2000, in which he served as lead singer, co-songwriter and guitarist. He was often cited as progenitors of today’s emo music. This singing style is now widespread among current emo vocalists, though Enigk has sought to distance himself from these types of bands. Jeremy Enigk returns with the quick follow up to last years highly acclaimed World Waits called The Missing Link which features brand new material along with acoustic version from World Waits.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't think of it as a new album..., August 21, 2007
This review is from: Missing Link (Audio CD)
Think of it as a 4-song ep with five bonus tracks. That being said, the four new songs are strong and don't stray too far from the places explored on his previous album, "World Waits." "Chewing Gum" has quickly become my new personal favorite, with Enigk's voice floating in on a cloud of strings and acoustic guitar, crescendoing to an achingly glorious, yet still subtle climax before floating away as it began. The five "live in the studio" tracks, all culled from material from "World Waits," are nice. They give a good impression of the kind of energy one can expect from Jeremy's live shows, but they are neither essential nor definitive versions (though the version of "Canons" found here is pretty invigorating). All in all, this is a very good record, but if you don't think you'll enjoy the five "live in the studio" tracks, I highly recommend purchasing the four new songs through the digital music seller of your choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album!, October 25, 2007
This review is from: The Missing Link (MP3 Download)
After hearing the Fire Theft for the first time at a friend's house, I was disappointed to find they had one album released. With a little search I found a few albums by Jeremy Enigk, and this was the first one I purchased. I'd have to say this is the best intro to his solo stuff (as far as I've heard). The songs are beautiful and have the perfect layers/complexity. I'm glad I found this album!

2.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced EP, October 6, 2007

Shaun (Tucson, AZ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Missing Link (MP3 Download)
I am a long time fan of Enigk/s, but I felt a little gyped when I listened through this album and noticed that half of the material has already appeared on the previous album, "World Waits." For full price it simply wasn't worth it to me. Also, in my opinion the presentation of those same songs on "World Waits" was far stronger. Here they just seem like raw outtakes, which may be of value to other fans--just not to me. The few new songs on this album are decent, but they alone do not justify in my mind the $13 I shelled out in anticipation of a NEW record. I probably will not give this one another listen. A bit turned off by this experience.
