Once I began reading "A Missing Link in Leadership - the Trial of LTC ALlen West" by Dr. Richard Berry, I must say that I could barely put it down. It objectively reveals Lieutenant Colonel Allen West as a leader. as a man, a true hero, the type of individual that makes America great. As interesting, the book is equally as revealing in a very compelling way of it's author, Dr. Berry, who writes this important story in a fearless and straight forward manner. I found the writing style to be honest, well documented and compelling. Personally, I think it should be required reading for any student studying leadership and Organizational Development as well as for corporate managers/executives and any one in a role of influence and serious responsibility. In fact, it serves any reader who wants to fully connect with what it means to do "the right thing" for community, country and self. This book puts an inspiring and human face to a term often used but rarely understood and too rarely exhibited - "Leadership."

A great factual account of a great patriot. Google Allen West's utubes. Read the book. This guy is White House material. Then research Herman Cain. Herman Cain could cover our economy and Allen West knows our enemies and how to deal with them. However, they will scare folks in both parties as they are honest and moral. I'm a southwest Texas white boy that learned early how to judge an individual by attributes - not religion or color.

A Missing Link in Leadership: The Trial of LTC Allen West

Dr. Berry demostrates that leadership theory to date has overlooked an important factor: the affects of is emotion. He demostrates that emotions precede actions by using the trail of LTC Allen West as the backdrop. He shows that fear, love, and adaptation may drive individual or group actions that may not be in alignment with organizational policies. We are made to feel and identify with LTC Allen West experience in a crisis. We are left to wonder if we would have acted in a similar way. Important to understanding the gap between individual and group actions and the organization's policies.

From the description, I was expecting to read the record of the 'trial' as reported by the Court Reporter (or is it Recorder?). This book contains the analysis by someone who read the record of the 'trial' as reported by the Court Reporter. Yes, there are some interesting points in the analysis, but I most enjoyed the quotations from the witnesses. Those quotes made me even more of an Allen Bernard West fan than I was before I started reading this book.

Gives you a new perspective about Allen West and what kind of leader his men felt about him. He was well respected and trusted by his men. The army lost a great leader when they let him go. He is the kind of man parents would feel good about their sons and daughters serving under because he wouldn't put them in a position that he wasn't willing to do. Our "Rules of Engagement" when at war do more to protect the enemy than our own troops. I don't know how we will be able to get good young people to volunteer with how they are treated. This book was written in 2008. I look forward to reading Allen West's new book to be released soon. I have a new respect for him.
