This gem of a book reaches all people .,

This review is from: The Missing Link: Reflections on Philosophy and Spirit (Hardcover)
The reviews of this book on this website moved me to tears. It would be hard to add anything. What has touched me is to see patients in mental institutions and jails gain hope and self-respect as they carry this book around in settings that might seem to have the power to destroy the human spirit. This book represents for me the "misssing link"between spirituality and practical day-to-day living . As deep as this book is, everybody seem to be touched by it in a very direct, meaningful way.

A concise distillation of the spiritual wisdom of the ages,

This review is from: The Missing Link: Reflections on Philosophy and Spirit (Hardcover)
This author had an authentic, direct, transcendent experience of the spiritual essence of life, In this spellbinding book, he has brought together the wisdom of all great sages, msytics and philosophers. He has articulated the underlying truths that are always behind our spiritual and psychological experience of life. He has both lived and taught this understanding for over a quarter of a century. His talks, tapes and books have healed literally hundreds of thousands of people who were suffering chronic distress by reconnecting them with their essential spiritual nature. Anyone reading this book and catching even a glimpse of the truth being shared is sure to find deeper levels of their own inner wisdom, happiness and peace of mind, This book is the most accurate and helpful book I have ever read about the essence of life and what life really is as a spiritual journey. It cuts out the ritual, opinion and dogma and all other "middlemen" and gets right to the essence of what every enlightened sprititual teacher througout history was trying to express to humanity about who we really are and what life really is. I have read it over and over and it always brings new understanding, insight and deeper feelings of love, gratitude and beauty into my life. And I know this is just the tip of the iceburg. I will be forever grateful that the deep understanding expressed in this book has come into my life and work, and that this profound wisdom has already helped so many across diverse cultures and communities gain access to their own beauty and the true depth of their potential . The first time I read the words in this book, tears streamed from my eyes. I was deeply touched by the profound insights conveyed. It felt as if the author were speaking directly to me, helping me to recognize and remember what I already knew inside. As someone else mentioned, this is a book that will be picked up and read often. Just looking at a sentence or paragraph can inspire insight and bring new perspective to life. It is a volume to treasure.

This review is from: The Missing Link: Reflections on Philosophy and Spirit (Hardcover)
The Missing Link is a book with an unusual format of short but intriguing philosophical gems. Whenever I read a page or two of this book, I go back to my every day life with a new perspective. The simple yet profound observations offered in the Missing Link stay with you, in a very subtle manner. The thought provoking comments on life lead the reader to realize how their moment to moment thinking impacts their relationship to the world around them. The statements made in this book help bring out an understanding of life that is in all of us; a deep and constant inner wisdom that is available to us at all times. The Missing Link offers hope and relief for the troubled spirit and deeper joy for those who are content with their lives. If you've enjoyed Second Chance or In Quest of the Pearl, by Syd Banks, you must read The Missing Link.

This beautiful book can be read in an hour or for a lifetime. It boils down what lies behind spiritual philosophies into the most concise, clear, profound, insightful, and practical statements imaginable. Sydney Banks has "seen" and feels what he talks about; this is not a distillation of others' ideas but a first-hand account--not of his story but of what he Knows from it. Each statement, although seemingly simple on the surface, contains deep, profound truths. If you want to know the mechanism behind our experience of life, here it is. Not to be missed!

This review is from: The Missing Link: Reflections on Philosophy and Spirit (Hardcover)
Recently I read Stillpower: The Inner Source of Athletic Excellence by Garret Kramer. I enjoyed this quick and insightful 195-page book dealing with improving coaches and athlete's mindset and performance. While the author uses numerous sports related examples to explain "Stillpower," he admits Sydney Banks' influence on his thinking and recommends "Syd's most poignant book, The Missing Link:Reflections on Philosophy and Spirit" stating that he keeps that book on his office desk and another at home.
How could I resist purchasing the book that was the inspiration for Kramer's epiphany? I could not! Banks explains the function of the Mind, Consiousness and Thought as innate gifts that guide us through life and form human behavior and social structure. He defines those gifts and explains their byproducts. While thought is not real, it is through our thought that we create our realities, happiness or suffering. Further, Sydney talks about the illusionary duality of life and the missing link between our psychological and spiritual nature. He speaks of learning, feelings, forgiveness, living in the present and wisdom. In 142 short and simple pages, Sydney Banks provides truths and insights that if read open-mindedly can lead to a positive mindset, performance and happiness. This book was a joy to read. Enjoy!

The Missing Meat,

I have a very different view than the glowing reports offered here. This book is thin and could be much thinner. It's a paragraph lengthened into a book. What Mr. Banks has done, perhaps unintentionally, is write a primer vaguely describing elementary principles of Buddhism. Pick up an introductory text on the Dharma and the reader will find a more readable, understandable, thoughtful, and better written version of the same ideas.
