4.0 out of 5 stars Fast-Paced Fantasy!, November 29, 2006
This review is from: Missing Magic (The Magic Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Missing Magic by Karen Whiddon

Someone is stealing Fae's souls, leaving them in a zombie-like state. King Roark of Rune believes his nephew, Talmak (Mick) is involved in this evil plan. He sends his son, Cenrick to the mortal realm to find him.

Dee Bishop, a cop has had a string of bad luck. She has been suspended from her job. She has been dumped by her fiancé, and now her best friend, Mick has disappeared.

Dee is worried that something terrible has happened to Mick. She goes to his house to see if he has left behind a clue. She finds Cenrick hiding in Mick's garage. He tells her that he is Fae, and so is Mick. Of course she thinks he's nuts, but with a spell, he proves to her that magic really does exist.

While trying to unravel the mystery involved with stealing the Fae's souls, and who is out to destroy Dee, they also must deal with their growing attraction to each other.

Ms. Whiddon pens a story of suspense and mystery, where the strongest magic of all, is love that reaches to the soul. I would recommend this tale for anyone that loves a good fast-paced fantasy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Missing Magic, May 24, 2007
This review is from: Missing Magic (The Magic Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
Things have gone from bad to worse since she was suspended due to being charged with misconduct. Her fiancé dumped her, her best friend doesn't want to talk to her anymore...and now she's facing trial, all for things she didn't do!! Dee is a good cop, one that's always gone by the book. You'd think that the people she's worked with for years would know that! To find out just what's up with her best friend Mick, Dee goes into his house to search. The state of his bedroom and bathroom tells her that there's something very wrong and when she goes into his garage, she meets a strange man that claims to be Mick's cousin. Dee knows that Mick doesn't have family; after all, the two of them grew up in the same orphanage.

Cenrick has been told that he needs to go through the veil to find out what's been happening to his people. There have been fae coming back from the human world soulless. Both his father, King Roark, and the Mage, Mort, are convinced that Mick is at the bottom of the tragedies; it was his fae friends that came home devoid of soul and magic first. Cenrick's not convinced that he's the right one for the job...he's a scholar, not a warrior. When Cenrick is in Mick's garage, he meets Dee Bishop, a woman who claims to be Mick's best friend. Can she be a part of the problem that's befallen his people?

I became immersed in Missing Magic immediately, it starts off with a bang and the action just keeps on going. You have a gorgeous fae prince, magic, and a race against time to find out how the souls are being stolen from Cenrick's people. Cenrick also needs to stop the villains before he loses more and then to top things off wonderfully, there's an irresistible attraction between Cenrick and Dee. For magic, mayhem, adventure, passion and love, Missing Magic is one book that lovers of fantasy should not miss! I can say I'm really happy that I didn't miss out on Missing Magic.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful romantic fantasy, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Missing Magic (The Magic Series, Book 5) (Mass Market Paperback)
King Roark of Rune and Mort the Mage of Rune are worried. They summon Prince Cenrick to travel across the veil to the mortal world because several Fae have returned as husks having lost their souls and with that the use of magic. The monarch and the mage think Cenrick's cousin Talmick is the cause. Cenrick is to go to Rome where Talmick lives to uncover the truth, but must be cautious not to lose his soul as no cure, not even by the Oracle, has been found.

South Worth Police Department Officer Dee Bishop is on suspension facing charges that she knows are false. She turns to her fiancé Peter, but he dumps her. Dee seeks her best friend Mick Morsi, but he apparently has vanished without a trace. However, in his garage is Cenrick, who sounds loony as he explains he and Mick are Fae cousins. As the female human and the royal Fae search for Mick, they begin to fall in love, but first there is the missing magic that could ruin Rune.

MISSING MAGIC is a wonderful romantic fantasy that sub-genre fans will cherish. The story line is fast-paced once Cenrick and Dee meet and never slows down as they fall in love, search for Talmick (Mick), and seek the truth behind the soulless Fae though each means facing the dark figuratively or literally. Fans of Karen Whiddon will immensely enjoy this fine tale starring a dedicated beleaguered cop and the brother of the star of LONE STAR MAGIC.
