About the Artist

At 23, Meg Allison is smack-dab in the middle of the crazy-awesome-wonderful-frustrating life of a singer/songwriter—waiting tables by day, singing by night, and paying her dues. After listening to Meg sing, it is evident that she possesses a gift for storytelling with heartfelt emotion. She writes the songs you can’t get out of your head, with the lyrics you’ve lived. Meg’s songs are not only inspired by her life, but by the artists she most admires such as Jason Mraz, Martin Sexton, Patty Griffin, Ryan Adams, and Ray LaMontagne. Witness one performance and you can tell that when on stage with her guitar on one side and a beer on the other, she is as comfortable as old jeans. Meg has earned her loyal following since she first started playing out in college bars back at Miami of Ohio University, where she majored in Mass Communications. After graduating, she packed up her car and headed for Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Why not!? It was that summer in the mountains when she realized her passion for singing was no longer a hobby, but inevitably her career. Now with the release of her debut album, Missing Piece, produced by Chris Keup (Jason Mraz, Josh Kelly, Jonathan Rice) and producer/engineer Stewart Myers (Lifehouse, Rachel Yamagata, Liz Phair) Meg continues to prove her talent. She has performed at Chicago venues: Uncommon Ground, Bordo’s, P.J. Clarke’s (sponsored by Budweiser), Tryst, Cavanaugh’s, The Beat Kitchen (Chick Singer Night), Elbo Room, and Neybours. Meg has also played at CBGB’s Gallery, New York, New York.

5.0 out of 5 stars simply amazing, March 9, 2006
This review is from: Missing Piece (Audio CD)
Meg Allison has such a soothing voice and each of her songs comforts me in its own special way. Not only does she harmonize beautifully and hit every note with such ease and perfection, her music is very real. If you listen to her lyrics, which I believe she wrote most of all herself, you will understand what I am talking about. Her music moves me and I often turn to it when I am stressed out and need to escape for a while. I highly reccommend this cd to anyone and everyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give A Kid A Break -- She Sounds Like She Deserves it., January 17, 2006
This review is from: Missing Piece (Audio CD)
Someone in Meg's camp earned their money. Maybe it was a slow news day, but somehow her press release announcing an up-coming gig at the Bitter End (a hallowed venue in the Village) made it onto Yahoo's news page. Impressed with the enterprising effort, I followed a couple of links and found my way to a sample of Meg's work. On the strength of one track -- "Chicago" -- I am pulling for young Meg (23, I think she is) to make it. I haven't listened to more of her work yet, but if the rest of it is up to the level of the grit and buoyancy found on this track, Meg deserves to make a good-sized dent -- at the very least she deserves a fair-hearing. The PR is that she waits on tables to make ends meet, so plunk down ten bucks for this CD so this struggling up-and-comer can live the life of the artist that she apparently is. This young lady appears to have the goods -- she's the real deal to my ears!

I've really enjoyed this CD. Not as country in sound as I expected after seeing her on Nashville Star, but really a great listen. Reminds me at times of early Linda Ronstadt style
