Book Description

Anthony is ready to return home. Ready to see his family and friends. In order to do so for the first time in three years, Anthony Williams must divulge his life’s journey to his listener. Anthony opens up to Doc about divorce, death, remarriage, baseball, family and first love. These conversations with Doc about his past are intertwined with Anthony’s musings about his new surroundings and new friends - friends that cannot wait for his 3rd year celebration. All of this is punctuated with Anthony’s rumination of the missed opportunity to woo a college friend, a friend whose love he carries with him like a burden.
Missing Winter captures the everyday beauty, melancholy, glory, ugliness and wonder of life - and death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maybe you can now retire from teaching. January 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A coming of age story for a late thirty something is not my typical read however when I picked it up I couldn't put it down. I usually read Sci-Fi particularly ones that involve lightsaber battles not stalking ex girlfriend while listening to grunge rock but I truly enjoyed this book. The humor that is found throughout the book is not your typical attempts at literary comedy. Instead they are the quotes from that funny friend who often can't filter their thoughts which is why you quickly gain a personal interest in the narrators life. Also, the names of the characters in the book are a refreshing change from the generic drama that spawns names like Jack Porter or Donald Winthrop. The author uses character names and nicknames that are genuine. Seriously, I don't know anyone who calls their grandmother Jo Jo but it's a refreshing change.

This is a great quick read that does not include 200 pages of filler simply because I publisher thinks a 500 page book will be more profitable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!! December 30, 2013

This is one of those times words fail me. I don't think I can put into words what a wonderful book this is. Original storyline and well written would only be the very tip of the iceberg. I was hooked from beginning to end. 5 stars are NOT enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars A GREAT read! January 17, 2014
By Luke
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
When I found out that a friend from school had written a book, I immediately went online and purchased it, and then started reading it. Didnt' really matter what type of material it was, I was just happy to be able to help a fellow alumni in seeing one of their dreams come true. It wasn't to far into the book that I realized it was one of those books that I simply couldn't put it down until I was finished reading it. I loved being able to read about places from back home but more than that I loved reading and getting to know his characters, it's almost as if I knew them as if I was friends with them. Definitely was a great read and look forward to any other books from this author and school friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ate it up like Thanksgiving dinner. January 15, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Folks' maiden voyage into the literary world is absolutely magnificent. The characters were carefully crafted and interwoven into a unique story line that one does not see coming. A careful balancing act between faith and fiction, I found the read to be entertaining and thought provoking. His honest depiction of family dynamics and of the reality of divorce and loss was nothing short of masterful. I read a myriad of different genres and I must say, can't wait for his next offering.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Makes This Book Unique July 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Whenever I opened this book to listen to Anthony tell his story, time flew by, and I would re-enter the world several hours later, satisfied and slightly disoriented, the way I feel walking out of a movie theater auditorium. This book's unique perspective on a familiar concept is entertaining, and Folk creatively utilizes his twist as a new channel to explore themes about relationships and life. Folk's writing is rich with literary devices and has a strong voice, giving life to the relatable and humorous characters and making the book an engaging read. I recommend this book and I look forward to reading future works by this author.

It was OK but I didn't recommend it for the rest of the family. Everyone's different. It didn't hold my complete attention.
