Truthfully, I didn't expect much from these speakers at this price. I am not an audiophile-I do not have expensive sound reproduction equipment for my home theater system. I am an audio guy in that I record. produce and mix audio professionally. When it comes to watching movies, I'm not that particular and that's what these babies were purchased for. I put on the Pat Metheny Live Speaking of Now DVD which is a pretty good sounding disc and was really surprised. These little puppies really pump out a whole lot of bass for their size and it's focused and tight. I actually turned my subwoofer off for a while and was surprised by how well these puppies held their own ,considering the 5 inch woofer. The highs are a little pronounced, but that's sort of the way I like 'em, so it doesn't bother me much. And there's a surprising amount of detail in the mids. I paid $125 and now I see that Amazon has lowered the price to $120!. It's ridiculous really. I'm seriously considering getting an extra pair for my bedroom. Considering the price, you really can't go wrong with these little monsters.

I purchased these speakers to replace a pair of Acoustic Research 8" two-way bookshelf units I bought in college 40 years ago (I needed more shelf space above my computer). I am awed by the quality of the sound they create. I can no longer hear frequencies above 8 khz, so I can't comment on the high end, but the midrange and bass are outstanding, and the bass may improve with longer use, judging from other reviewer's comments. When I add the output from a 12" subwoofer, the bass only improves about 20 percent. These speakers are actually too good for computer use, so I have ordered a set of M30s (even smaller), and I will be moving the M31s to my home theater. If better speakers can be had at this price, I certainly want to hear about them. BTW, Amazon delivered these in just two days - great service. BTW2, I can't get the sticker adhesive off my grilles either.

This is my first exposure to Mission speakers and I am very favorably impressed. Physically, they are solid, well constructed in a pleasing design and come securely packaged. From a listening point of view, they'll blow you away. I purchased these speakers to upgrade a small stereo system in my home office and what an improvement! The treble is refined, clear and sharp. The bass is deep, rich, full of energy and without distortion. The speakers provide excellent stereo separation and imagery without undue regard to seating position. They do require some power though, so make sure your system has at least 25 watts RMS per channel to drive them. At their price point, they are a tremendous value and I highly recommend them. I would certainly buy them again.

I have owned my pair of M31is for about 5 hours. These are my initial impressions. I have my speakers mounted on home made shelves that place the top of the speaker at ear level when sitting. They are about 4 feet apart, and about 10 inches from the wall. I have nothing in between them. They are in my office with room dimensions of 10 by 12 feet. I am driving them with a vintage 1979 Yamaha CR-820 50 watt receiver.

The precise imaging is truly amazing. I am listening to LPs and CDs. the placement of the instruments are as good as my 1986 Infinity RS-4bs - and these are excellent.

The next characteristic that impresses me is the clarity of the sound. Crisp cymbals, tight guitars, melodic piano sounds.

I understand that there is about a 24 hour break in period for the bass. However, with the tone controls are flat, and the depth of bass is quite good. I experimented by boosting the bass controls, and the warmth of the sound is fantastic. I have backed off the bass to flat to continue the break in.

The finish is perfect (graphite black), and the cabinets look very well made.

Only one complaint: the speakers came with a silly sticker on the grilles, and it was quite a chore to remove the glue residue. Het Mission - don't put the sticker on!

Overall, I am very pleased and looking forward to many years of listening.

Great little speakers.

They need a little time to break in--they really do. I wasn't particularly impressed with them at first but after several hours of playing time, they begin to shine. So, give them a chance. Don't blow them off immediately.

They do great on a pair of speaker stands in my den with no particular attention paid to positioning. No, they're not going to blow you away with big sound and they're not going to sound as good as speakers costing several grand. I don't think you can beat them for the price. Too bad Amazon no longer has them in stock.

These speakers are awesome! They may be small, but they produce awesome sound! Everyone needs these!

I bought this speaker from here, and tons of thanks to amazon.com for FREE 2 day delivery! I was looking for some Bookshelf / monitor speakers and based on the Review from others I took a chance on this.
I opened the box and this is my first speaker set to be listened from Mission,connected to my HK receiver.I made the speaker clamp(back side) intact as I did'nt use like Bi-wire or Bi-Amp setup.
Played some audio CDs with spkrs positioned in conventional way to experience the sweet-spot and beat seperation. I just heard sound coming out of 2 drivers..just like the other speakers do.I mean I did'nt hear anything special from what I read reviews. The description/nice tech specs atleast should comprimise from the Mfr.But never. I asked myself whether I setup properly? so I checked all the settings in my receiver,spkr cable connections etc etc...the basics, and even the spkr cables are terminated with Gold plated Banana plugs on the receiver end. All good!!! But still I just heard a sound what these drivers are meant to be, intended to produce LF and HF. Nothing special! just a disappointment.
This piece is just a Mission brand name,fair finish,Bi-amp/wire connectors as long as I figured out.
I will listen to more and get back.If someone has better ideas to experience better sound from these please share with me to try. Meantime if someone really found a sound difference with this speakers, please post honestly to help buy other new buyers with confident.else don't post false reviews.
I selected 3 stars to not to spoil Mission brand,otherwise I would rate 0 or 1 with it's sound reproduction and cost.Even a KLH would sound better or surpass if they sell theirs at this price tag or little below, I bet!

Can you please tell me what's that 24Hour break-in for Bass? Will that affect performance of this speakers,if listened with BASS tone for the first 24 Hrs of operation?
