If this book is "science fiction at its very best," then I'm ready to give up the genre and read nothing but cheesy soft-core romance novels for the rest of my life. As L. Ron Hubbard (or the Scientologists assigned to ghost-write this dreck for him...Hubbard died in 1986 and it is widely believe this series was finished by other writers) realizes that even he can't fill this series up with any more subplots, we get several hundred pages of filler before the series finally turns in on itself and resolves things in the next book, "Disaster." The so-called "voyage" of this voluminous corpse of a book involves our "hero" Soltan Gris, as he is trapped on a yacht with Teenie Whopper the teenage nymphomaniac; the two of them take a sea tour of the Mediterranean Sea and resident countries in a fashion that mirrors L. Ron Hubbard's own voyages through that area. (While he was fleeing capture on his own ship, the "Apollo," Hubbard spent time sneaking around the Mediterranean, occasionally coming ashore, and hatching plots to expand Scientology in the Middle East and Africa. Most notable was his attempt to take over an African nation!) When Gris screws up and blows Teenie's plan down the drain, he finally comes back home to oversee his seemingly endless mission to disrupt Jettero Heller's plan to save the Earth. Heller finally breaks the plans of J. Warbler Madman, and we're treated to a lovely scene in which the passengers of a 747 airliner are mercilessly slaughtered by aliens, while Soltan Gris cheers them on.

"Science fiction at its best?" If you've managed to make your way this far, then be assured that the next book, "Disaster," actually gets down to some real action and is a lot easier to read than "Voyage of Vengance" or the SIX paralyzingly slow-moving books that precede it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Read the Previous Review, November 6, 1999

The previous review is fantastic. The story is readable..nothing more. And the nymphomaniac angle?..please...it gets so boring. All Hubbard writes about is sex, sex, sex. I'm starting to think he had a complex. As to the previous reviewers assertion that some of this was ghostwritten, I 100% agree. Starting with the second half of the 7th book, the author's tone changes noticeably..and declines in quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars great series, great imagination, August 25, 1998

This review is from: Mission Earth 07: Voyage of Vengeance (Mission Earth Series) (Audio Cassette)
this mission earth series is exceptional in the presentation and story line. There is an obvious philisophical bent, anti homosexual, women's roles, anti marketing etc, to the story line, but this is a very good sci fi audio presentation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, November 14, 2002
The characters in this book are so believable, you'll think the author has been crawling around in your mind. Haven't you read or heard something and thought: "That's exactly how I feel, but I just couldn't put it into words?" That idea keeps coming to mind as you read. This guy in the book fits in, but doesn't really fit in. He conforms on the outside--most of the time-but resists conformity on the insideand resents the people he has to get along with.Everybody's pushing and he wants to push back, but doesn't openly-most of the time. Society says: "Get in step. Stay in line." And he does-most of the time.
"But I'm not like the rest," he thinks. Or is he? He can't figure out who he is or what he wants to become.
The story may not grab you at first. Keep going! It's worth the effort. You think nobody ever felt the way you do about growing up?Reading this will change your mind.Another great novel I really suggest is Paul Omeziri's Descent into Illusions. This is I think going to be a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars voyage of vengeance, January 8, 2001

In this the 7 book of mission earth it takes some interesting plot turns. In this book soltan finally manages to escape New York and flee to the safety of sea. Heller is still trying to build his air cleaning plant in Florida. While krak gets closer to finding out that soltan is behind all their misfortunes. This book is one of the best books that I have ever read. If you haven't read the first six books read then before you read this book you will need to understand the complex plot, and they are all relay good books as well. if you are a si fi reader then this is definitely a book for you, but not only si fi fanatics will like it also appeals to all most any taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Action-packed and exciting! A real good one!, June 24, 2000
It's very easy to get wound up in this story at this point when you reach volume 7 of Mission Earth. The action in this book is equal or better than the preceding novels. Hubbard has a unique way of upping the excitement in each volume. In this series a group of alien agents called the 'Aparatus' seek to destroy Earth and plunder it for their own personal gain. They have arranged for a straight and honest Fleet Officer Jettero Heller from the Voltairian Galactic government to be assigned to Earth and salvage it from destroying itself through polution and neglect, and at the same time fail and be destroyed in the attempt. The Apparatus agent 'Soltan Gris' is on Earth with Heller covertly striving to sabotage his mission creating havoc at every turn. He conspires to kill Heller and completely make his mission a failure. Introduced into this novel a group of rouge and grotesque aliens arrive and plot air piracy to steal gold from agent Soltan Gris using advanced technology. Meanwhile Soltan Gris engages the resources of a psychotic PR agent J. Walter Madison also known as J. Walter Madman to destroy Heller in the press and ruin his reputation so he would lose the support of his friends. At the same time Soltan has a nymphomaniac teenager shadowing his every move and the wild characters get wilder as the story progresses. Hubbard has a unique grasp fo creating humor with the common place culture we live in, and at the same time demonstrating to us the frailty of the society we exist in. This is quite a sensational series, and it will leave you howling at times with the satirical content. I found this Dekalogy to be an inspiration of true genius and sincerely wish Hubbard had written more. I think you will enjoy it too.
