4.0 out of 5 stars 2 out Of 3 Aint Bad
I am not going to bore people with what the plots on these 3 movies are about as I think we all have a reasonable grasp of them. What I will say about the HD-DVD boxset is that MI2 and MI3 are both spectacular examples of this high definition format. 3.0 out of 5 stars MI:III the true HD
I waited for all 3 of these movies to come out in HD before purchase, which although they all look good, by far, MI:III turned out the best. I think with the modern film and cameras, and with this being the new standard of image, III looks the best, highest definition possible. I just wasn't impressed with I and II on the HD-DVD format. I don't know if they didn't...

4.0 out of 5 stars 2 out Of 3 Aint Bad, November 18, 2006
This review is from: Mission Impossible - Ultimate Missions Collection (Mission Impossible / Mission Impossible II / Mission Impossible III) [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
I am not going to bore people with what the plots on these 3 movies are about as I think we all have a reasonable grasp of them. What I will say about the HD-DVD boxset is that MI2 and MI3 are both spectacular examples of this high definition format. They excel in both the video and audio transfers, I think they would have been par excellence if they had of included a TrueHD audio track.

The one down point to this set is the original MI HD-DVD, the ball was dropped on this one with a sub par video transfer which at times was so out of focus that it was not funny. The audio, while not jaw dropping, was acceptable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Set if you like the moives, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Mission Impossible - Ultimate Missions Collection (Mission Impossible / Mission Impossible II / Mission Impossible III) [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
All 3 movies were restored with great care in this set. MI2 looks incredible considering when it was filmed. MI 1 looks good. Its not "HD" looking but its clearer than the dvd orig and the blacks are very good. MI3 looks true HD. Probably one of the highest resolution movies Ive seen on HD so far.

Extras are pretty lame on the first movie and not too much there on the second either. The thrid movies has quite a bit.

Overall this is a great set if you are a fan of the series. It was rated to look slightly better on HD DVD than blu ray but I havent verified this myself.

3.0 out of 5 stars MI:III the true HD, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Mission Impossible - Ultimate Missions Collection (Mission Impossible / Mission Impossible II / Mission Impossible III) [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
I don't know if they didn't clean up the older films or if the techniques used in fimling were lower, but in my opinion they didn't look much better (if at all) than standard DVD.

Summary: If you don't own any of them on DVD get it. If you own the first 2 on DVD but not the third, but MI:III in HD-DVD and leave the rest alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Set of movies and great HD Transfer, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Mission Impossible - Ultimate Missions Collection (Mission Impossible / Mission Impossible II / Mission Impossible III) [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
As you would expect since these movies are newer they look great on HD-DVD. I purchased the boxed set at a retail store and have been happy with the purchase - though notedly I did not have the SD versions of these discs. While Tom Cruise may arguably be overrated in these movies I think that they are well done, and the quality of them on the HD discs is impeccable. I would recommend this as a great set for someone who just got and HD-DVD player since it is a fair price for 3 great movies, and you can get a good feeling to how well the actions sequences translate to HD-DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Collection, Only if Just to Immortalize Thandie Newton when She was Uber-Hot!, June 9, 2010

This review is from: Mission Impossible - Ultimate Missions Collection (Mission Impossible / Mission Impossible II / Mission Impossible III) [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
There are so many reviews on this collection, so my 2 cents is HD DVDs are now obsolete, so get this as a collector's item as you know in the future it will be very hard to collect them, and prices will surely go up (as they have already).
I love part 2 the most - it's probably as close to a Hong Kong action film as any American movie can ever be (the other being Face/Off, also directed by John Woo - get the trend?).
The doves, the car crashes that lasts 2 minutes so the hot guy can sneak a peak at the hot girl, while still looking cool with his hair flowing perfectly in place so he can still see that he has just enough time to rescue his dangling damsel - they all make up for a very stylistic movie.
And is anyone hotter than Thandie Newton in this movie? And wow, what a change, what a downhill slide in looks for her since then.
So get this collection even if it's just to immortalize Newton when she was uber-hot.
As Cruise so eloquently puts it, "Damn, [she's] beautiful."

4.0 out of 5 stars Saving The Best For Last, December 12, 2007

This review is from: Mission Impossible - Ultimate Missions Collection (Mission Impossible / Mission Impossible II / Mission Impossible III) [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
It's too bad Tom Cruise almost self destructed just before the release of MI 3, as it is undoubtedly the best of the bunch.Number 3 boasts an excellant video transfer and an outstanding audio track.Well written ,well acted and a great story.I think this would have been much better recieved if not for his bizarre behavior at the time.
The first and 2nd installment also shine on high def.Number one being a great story ,and I felt number two was a let down but does look good in this video transfer.

The first two films, although redone in 1080p is still not quite on par with the 3rd. The first movie especially you see a little bit of grains. The second movie, you seen an improvement, but it's the 3rd one where you get to enjoy the true High Definition experience in terms of video quality and audio sound. But this series is really a must-get due to it's action and explosions. This HD DVD set is really a great buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Movies, August 30, 2007
This review is from: Mission Impossible - Ultimate Missions Collection (Mission Impossible / Mission Impossible II / Mission Impossible III) [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
The Mission Impossible series is one of those series, like The Matrix, that really needed a remake in HD. Mission Impossible is decent but the MI2 and MI3 are absolutely gorgeous.

With my Onkyo receiver the sound quality is phenomenal. I'm not a big fan of extras but there are a decent amount if that is your thing.

If you already own the series on DVD, I would buy MI2 and MI3 in HD but don't bother with the first one...I don't think you'll notice the difference.

Bottom line, other than the Ultimate Matrix HD-DVD set, there isn't another finer HD set on the market.

Great video and sound I thopught it brought even more life to the movies. The only draw back is that the bonus stuff wasnt hd on the first 2 and even that was limited. Overall though its a must buy for any action fan.
