5.0 out of 5 stars Spine Shivering Romance
Ms. Wilde does a superb job of writing this wonderful romantic and contemporary novel. Filled with a little lust, a little mystery and a bit of fun, you won't want to miss this one.

Cassie is in charge of putting on a museum exhibit that will reunite doomed lovers from three centuries ago when the respective amulets are joined. When the lights go out, one of the amulets is missing, and it is up to Cassie to find them to save her hide and her job, along with the help of nerdy Dr. Harrison Standish. Harrison has always been unlucky in love, losing his first love to his brother Adam, and doesn't believe in "happily ever after" or curses.

The two are like oil and water, but opposites attract. When her apartment is ransacked, he takes her back to his place, where she makes a pass (that is rebuffed), forcing her to take matters in her own hands (so to speak).

They are on the hunt for missing Adam, who is supposed to have the other amulet in his possession, not realizing that he put it in Cassie's purse when he tried to warn her of impending danger. Meanwhile, the runaway mummy that Cassie bumped into has regained consciousness, and thinks that he a 3,000 year old mummy.

Will they be able to find the amulet in time to save her job? Will they be able to figure out what happened to Adam? Why won't mom tell him who his mysterious father is? Do I really care?

The story lacks chemistry with the leads and the secondary characters are not really developed. The story also lacks the humor of Wilde's previous efforts - this one tries too hard and comes up short. It was a chore to finish, and utterly forgettable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous fun, May 4, 2005
This review is from: Mission: Irresistible (Warner Books Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Danger, romance, and sex are intertwined in Lori Wilde's new romantic tale of opposites attracting. In one corner: Cassie Cooper, a cute PR whiz with an active love life but spooked by the notion of "one man for the rest of her life." In the opposite corner: Dr. Harrison Standish, an Egyptologist with a nerdy, color-blind professor's wardrobe; he learned early on that love was for suckers. Naturally, these two are destined to clash early at a museum's masquerade ball organized by Cassie's firm. When the main attraction of the evening -- a legendary amulet -- is stolen, the two are forced to team up to find the jewel and defeat the bad guys. In between (you guessed it!), they fall head-over-heels. Like Janet Evanovich, Wilde knows how to give fast-talking, spunky heroines the sweet romance they deserve, but Wilde's love scenes are, well, a lot wilder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!, September 11, 2005

This book rocks -- I love Charmed and Dangerous, but Mission Irresistible takes things to new heights. The writing is sharp, the romance is to die for, and I laughed out loud with this book more than I have any other I've read in a long time. Harrison may be my favorite hero ever. Lori Wilde is a star, and this book won't disappoint.

5.0 out of 5 stars A charmer, June 2, 2005

This review is from: Mission: Irresistible (Warner Books Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Mission Irresistible is a delightful tale of romance and adventure.

Cassie Cooper is banking on this ball and exhibit going off without a hitch. Things are running smoothly until a mummy is knifed at her feet. Then the focus of the collection disappears. Cassie turns to Dr. Harrison Standish, the thorn in her side at work for help.

Archaeologist Harrison's career is riding on getting the missing Amulet back to the museum. He reluctantly agrees to help Cassie solve the mystery. But Cassie is proving to be a bigger temptation then he bargained for. Harrison has cut romance from his life but being with Cassie 24/7 is making his mind and his hands wander.

Cassie and Harrison are proof that opposites to attract. Their banter had me in stitches and they sizzle with chemistry. They bring out the best in each other and learn something about themselves along the way.

Excellent follow-up to Maddie Cooper's story in Charmed and Dangerous.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun romantic amateur sleuth tale, April 27, 2005
This review is from: Mission: Irresistible (Warner Books Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Cassie Cooper hopes one day soon she will work at the Smithsonian, but for now she must handle the garbage Phyllis Lambert, her boss at Fort Worth Kimbell's Museum, tosses at her. Currently, the Kimbell hosts an Ancient Egypt exhibit because noted Egyptologist Dr. Harrison Standish got permission from the Mubarak government to host an exhibit that includes a priceless artifact in the states so he chose his home city. Phyllis warns Cassie if anything goes wrong she will be fired.

During an Ancient Egypt masquerade gala at the Kimbell, the lights go out; when they come back on a man in a mummy suit is dead and part of the amulet is missing. Additionally guest of honor, Harrison's half-brother Dr. Adam Grayfield has failed to arrive. Phyllis blames Cassie, but shockingly Harrison defends her innocence. As Cassie and Harrison work together seeking the missing half of the artifact, the nerdy Dr. "Standoffish" and the bouncy flirtatious nut fall in love, but first an amulet must be found though the kisses send shivers up both their spines.

The sequel to CHARMED AND DANGEROUS is a fun romantic amateur sleuth tale starring two likable seemingly opposites. The pairing sort of reminds this reviewer of what if the Professor and Ginger made it except instead of an isolated overly visited island the background is Egyptian artifacts. The story line is humorous and fast-paced never taking itself seriously. Fans who appreciate a breezy lighthearted romantic suspense reminiscent of Romancing the Stone will enjoy reading the adventures of the wilder Cooper twin.

3.0 out of 5 stars More "madcap" adventure than romance IMO, May 24, 2005
By
This review is from: Mission: Irresistible (Warner Books Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I had high hopes for this book after having read and enjoyed her prior two books Charmed and Dangerous (the prequel to this book) and License to Thrill, but I didn't care for this one so much. For me, the adventure overshadowed the romance pushing it almost into the background.

Cassie Cooper is the (slightly ditzy) PR rep for a museum about to launch a new Egyptian exhibit reuniting the mummies of two legendary lovers and their matching amulets. She has been working with the two very different archeologists who made these discoveries: Dr Harrison Standish and Dr Adam Grayfield. Though she's dealt with Adam only over the phone, he's her kind of guy - fun and flirty and she's looking forward to meeting him at the launch. He's already late and when the lights go out and one of the amulets is stolen, she must turn to nerdy, unpleasant Harrison (or as she refers to him Standoffish!) for help.

Harrison is not a party kind of guy and he figures Cassie is a ditzy, fluffy woman without much substance. So why does he rush to her defense when her boss is about to fire her over this theft? He buys some time by implying that this is all part of a mystery party game and that the guests will compete to find out who stole the amulet over the next few days. Meanwhile he and Cassie will look for Adam and try to find out why he never showed up and what happened to his mummy and the amulet.

Obviously, we have an opposites attract romance here with flighty fashionista Cassie and color-blind fashion victim nerd Harrison, neither of whom really is what they seem of course. I found the story a bit silly at times, the humor forced. At other times I was a bit incredulous at Cassie's behavior (when forced to spend the night on his couch, she just happens to bring along her vibrator - and uses it?!). I don't know I just found the timeframe of this adventure too short, the stuff that happens unrealistic and the romance pretty much uninspired. Though I did like Cassie and especially Harrison, this one just didn't do if me, unfortunately. But if you like a wild, escapist adventure, you just might like it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Delicious!, August 3, 2005
This review is from: Mission: Irresistible (Warner Books Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I don't read contemporary romance very often, but I just had to get this one since it had an archaeologist in it (my chosen career). Although it was a wee bit off in the Egyptology department, I didn't mind.

The story is more of a Hollywood type of plot, with danger lurking around every corner kind of thing. But that was one of the things that made it so fun. The sexual tension between the two characters was great, too. I can't resist those geeky-yet-seductive male leads.

At times the dialogue was a little campy, and the female lead (Cassie) was definetely on the goofy side. I loved the fact that the plot could hold its own outside of the romance, but I still got my romance craving. Definetly a worthwile read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light hearted romp, June 6, 2005
This review is from: Mission: Irresistible (Warner Books Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read the two previous books that Lori wrote and I was looking forward to this release. Overall, its an enjoyable story. I liked the characters. Cassie and Harrison are totally opposite and think the other is the stero type of each others image. Naturally the shallow pool has hidden depths, which is discovered when Cassie and Harrison are forced to spend time together after the amulet is stolen and Adam turns up missing. Each is trying to solve the mystery for each owns reasons and they are the only two who have some kind of idea. The mystery was not so hard to figure out. I had an inkling after one of the conversations, then things kept falling into place. I still didnt know what happened to Adam or why the amulet was wanted so badly, so I still enjoyed the story until the end. The romance was pretty good too. That had good and bad points. When our two main characters get together in the begining, they do not like eachother, so when one or the other is doing things because they care, they could not figure out their reactions. Thinking they did not like the other, it made no scence to them that they would are about this or that. So we get to see the romance build. The final and only full love scene was a let down. The build up was great, but then when we get to it, it was blah. I thought there could have been more romance, the adventure was about equal to if not more then the romance. But it was a fun adventure none the less. I would still recommend this book for a light fun read. Some parts are silly and some of it seems forced. Some scenes seemed to be placed there just for what would happen afterword. Just didnt seem to fit. For example, the couch scene. Dont get me wrong, that was one of the funniest parts fo the book, but it didnt really fit all the way. I liked the style of the first two books better, but I enjoyed this one almost as much.

4.0 out of 5 stars from a college student, July 7, 2005
This review is from: Mission: Irresistible (Warner Books Contemporary Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was actually quite fascinating. After reading the other reviews, I felt that I would not get this book. However, going into a bookstore I just picked it up. Being 324 pages, the only time I put this book down was for dinner. The reader must not only be interested in romance novels but also this book deals with an old Egyptian legend. (the love story with a curse) Overall, this is a great book and the only reason I did not give a 5 was because very few books qualify for top stars.
