Making your own mission section is seriously flawed,
By Project master (Laguna Beach, California USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mission of San Juan Bautista (Missions of California) (Hardcover)
The historical portion of the book is very good. However.....
If you are buying this with the intent to construct a mission model watch out. Do not try to build the mission as instructed by the author. She provides directions in 14 steps complete with dimensions, materials required etc. Problem is once you cut out all the sections, they don't make sense or go together properly. Specifically steps 8-12. Three adults tried to figure it out and couldn't do it. I had to abandon it about 3/4 of the way through and rework the project by looking at actual mission photos.

bad project design!!,

How is this possible??? A book is published with a feature titled "Make your own Mission San Juan Bautista" which is perfect if you are like so many students in California: instructed to build a mission without the use of a kit. So, you go buy all the listed supplies--not cheap--and spend two hours cutting all the pieces out only to find that clearly NO ONE HAS EVER BUILT THIS MISSION WITH THE INSTRUCTED DIMENSIONS. It is impossible. You will have to start from scratch and rebuild.
A waste of money, completely. Look elsewhere. Shame on the author and publisher!! |
