Book Description

November 1998 Kingdom Studies
Mission of the Messiah is a compelling new study of the Gospel of Luke that presents the messianic mission of Jesus as the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy. This book is a must for anyone whose heart is burning to know and love Christ more profoundly. Imprimatur: Most Rev. Bishop Gilbert M. Sheldon, D.D., D.Min., "Here at last! A Catholic Bible study that makes Luke come alive. If you are hungering for the Bread of Life, this will satisfy. I heartily recommend Tim Gray's treatment of Luke, especially for parish and neighborhood Bible study groups." - Scott Hahn "Mission of the Messiah provides a valuable introduction to the fundamental themes of Jesus' messianic mission. The work is both enlightening and provocative. It is clearly presented in a compact and biblically insightful manner. It should be very easily accessible to the Catholic who wants to learn more about his or her faith." - Most Rev. Robert J. Carlson, Bishop of Sioux Falls "Finally, a Catholic Bible study guide! Tim Gray has given us a tool that allows St. Luke's Gospel to reach both the head and the heart. This book will open the reader up to God's grace and that, after all, is the mission of the Messiah." - Curtis A. Martin, Director, Fellowship of Catholic University Students "Tim Gray demonstrates how the Old Testament is unveiled in the Gospel, leaving the reader with the surge of excitement that only comes upon the discovery of something great." - Jeff Cavins, Host, "Life on the Rock" Tim Gray is assistant professor of Scripture and catechetics at the Notre Dame Graduate School of Christendom College in Front Royal and Alexandria, Virginia. He holds a Th.M. degree in Scripture from Duke University and a master's degree in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville. He is also the co-author of Catholic for a Reason: Scripture and the Mystery of the Family of Go

5.0 out of 5 stars Both Scripture and Faith come alive after reading this book., July 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mission of the Messiah: On the Gospel of Luke (Kingdom Studies) (Paperback)
Tim Gray more or less summarizes in 150 pages the essence of what Jesus did for the disciples on the road to Emmaus. He details how the Old Testament prophesies are fulfilled in Christ. This book helps the reader understand EXACTLY what the mission of the messiah was. For those who are fond of reading the Scriptures, Tim Gray shows that in the passages of Luke's gospel there is much much more than meets the eye. Every Christian should experience this book but especially Catholics who will rediscover the fullness of their faith in the pages of this work. Excellent resource for Bible study!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mission of the Messiah a Must Read for Year 2000, January 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mission of the Messiah: On the Gospel of Luke (Kingdom Studies) (Paperback)
Tim Gray's book opened my eyes to the importance of the Jubilee Year. Two friends have mentioned to me that they just weren't enthused about the Jubilee, it didn't really mean anything to them, and they hadn't done much preparing for it anyway. I knew just how they felt because I felt that way, too, before reading Mission of the Messiah. After reading it, I couldn't wait for the Jubilee Year to begin and I knew what I had to do to prepare for it. Now it is here and it isn't too late to prepare for it or understand it! Thanks to the author for helping me see it all through the eyes of the Gospel.

This review is from: Mission of the Messiah: On the Gospel of Luke (Kingdom Studies) (Paperback)
This book really opens up Luke's Gospel and makes really clear what Jesus did and why. Tim Gray accomplishes this by clearly explaining the meanings behind statements, actions, and backdrops in Luke's Gospel. You almost feel like Tim Gray must have been there!
