5.0 out of 5 stars Gives practical ways to demonstrate love to your child
I feel this book is a must read for any mom! I've read several parenting books, many of which focused on the area of discipline. This book was an awesome balance, because it focuses more on demonstrating love to your children, giving practical ways in order to do this. For example, in one chapter she talks about getting up early every so often and running to the store...

2.0 out of 5 stars Some nuggets, but overwhelming and long-winded.
I have read many, many books on mothering and this has been one of my least favorite. There were some good nuggets of information, as well as a few practical and creative ideas for application, but overall the book was overwhelming and long-winded. I felt there was far too much detail (it wasn't an "easy read") and very overwhelming, especially for a younger Christian...

5.0 out of 5 stars Gives practical ways to demonstrate love to your child, May 25, 2005

This review is from: The Mission of Motherhood: Touching Your Child's Heart for Eternity (Paperback)
I feel this book is a must read for any mom! I've read several parenting books, many of which focused on the area of discipline. This book was an awesome balance, because it focuses more on demonstrating love to your children, giving practical ways in order to do this. For example, in one chapter she talks about getting up early every so often and running to the store to pick up her family's favorite fancy danishes for breakfast, or taking the time to give your child a backrub or foot massage. They sound like obvious ideas, but I have to admit I've never done them. The days get busy, and I don't think about doing something like that.
She also gave me ideas to make my home more inviting and cozy for my children. Examples include using candles, nice music, etc. These are all things that I have and think about when company comes over, but don't necessarily think about doing for my own family.
Overall, this book just reminded me of the importance of showing your children how much you just love being with them, and ways to keep them close to you and your husband.

Wow, what a blessing this book has been to me. I started reading it after the birth of my second daughter. I had two under two and in diapers. I was overwhelmed and questioning "what am I doing at home". This book was like a refreshing breeze to my soul. It helped me focus on my relationship with Lord and what my true calling was. God Bless Sally Clarkson for writing this book, God used her to bless me, my children and my husband; and change my life and perspective forever. Thanks Sally!

This book is wonderful, and it has made a huge impact on my life. It's encouraging and uplifting. It's a timely reminder of the God-given duty we moms have to put the needs of our little ones first, because in doing so we are serving God. Living in a culture that emphasizes "me, me, me," Clarkson's message is a breath of fresh air. It reminds us that childhood is a short period of time, and we must make this most of this opportunity to train and teach our children to prepare them for adulthood. The book is well-written and organized, touching on all topics relevant to motherhood. It has practical solutions and offers ideas that really work. Assignments and disucssion questions with Scriptural references end each chapter. I highly recommend The Mission of Motherhood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Did the author crawl into my head?, January 21, 2004
This review is from: The Mission of Motherhood: Touching Your Child's Heart for Eternity (Paperback)
I just want to give this book high praise. After I read it I wanted to put this in the hands of as many mothers as possible...so I started a book study group. Every mother that has read it can't believe how Sally Clarkson can crawl into their heads and know exactly how they feel and what they're going through. It's like being mentored and encouraged by a close friend. She's there holding your hand....saying you can do this....and you can do it well. Bravo!!

I bought this book because I had been struggling with being a SAHM. In the early months after birth, I had no second thoughts. However, as I have entered into those early toddler months, my sanity, patience and resolve were definitely being tested! I started struggling with my role as a SAHM. When working outside the home, I was extremely driven and filled almost every hour of my day with either work, volunteering or hobbies. At home, I don't feel the same sense of accomplishment that I did before. This book came at the right time, reaffirming the importance of my role as a mother and the positive impact on my family. The book provides biblical references and sort of an internal book study with exercises to explore your heart and faith.

I have never met Clay and Sally Clarkson, but they are my mentors. Of anybody I "know" (when you read peoples books, you come to know them, especially authentic authors like the Clarksons) I aspire to parent like them. This book is refreshing, and I am going to give it along with Clay's "Heartfelt Discipline" to all the new mothers I know.

I can honestly say that no book has ever inspired and motivated me more in the area of parenting. I could not put this book down and highlighted the whole thing. It is one of those books I recommend to mothers and will read again.

I wish I had read this book when my kids were younger. There are some great ideas in here. It offers some different ways of looking at your family and your relationship with your children. This is one I will be including in every baby gift I give from now on. I liked it so much we are doing the Our 24 Family Ways ~ Family Devotional Guide together too.
Enjoy.

This book has been such an encouragement to me. Sally Clarkson does a wonderful job bringing to life God's Word and how we can relate it to our everyday lives as mothers. She gives great advice and creative ideas on training up our children. I highly recommend this book.
