Okay. Here's the problem with Greatest Hits CD Compilations: they only contain an artist's greatest hits. I love some of his stuff and hate some. Overall I am deeply moved by many of his spiritual and heartsy tracks. What a great poet! But some other stuff just surprises me at times. Overall a great talent, but I honestly expected more from his "Greatest Hits".

Okay. Here's the problem with Greatest Hits CD Compilations: they only contain an artist's greatest hits. Fortunately (or unfortunately), Peter Himmelman has not had a boatload of greatest hits - at least radio-wise. Instead, for the past few decades he has offered up songs that have touched the hearts, minds, and spirits of thousands of music lovers who have discovered his art outside of the corporate radio format. Several of those songs are included on this CD. But as good as they are, they're just a small representation. So consider this an aperitif. Something to whet your appetite for a larger and more glorious meal. From the rollicking and life-affirming "Beneath the Damage and the Dust", to the beautifully plaintive 'Shiloh', to the heart piercing and convicting 'Racing Off To Nowhere", Peter Himmelman has tapped into the soul of those of us who are trying to make sense of the world we live in. If you are already a Himmelman fan, well, I understand your favorite song may be missing. I'm sure it is. But for those of you who've somehow stumbled onto this page, the only thing I can say is this: put on some headphones and listen to the track previews. Hopefully, you'll realize that you're only catching a glimpse of what Peter Himmelman has to offer. I travel a lot as an author. Peter's music is a welcome respite on the road. Buy this CD. I guarantee you will be inspired, as I was, to buy the others.

I'm sure this is a fine collection of an artist not too many people know about, but it has one fatal flaw, and that it does not contains his best song, the amazing "Waning Moon" from Gematria

Love the melodies and words. I love music I can relate to, especially when it's done with thought and feeling from the inside!

3.0 out of 5 stars Amazing singer/songwriter... pretty good compilation, February 19, 2008

As is the case with most 'best of...' compilations, there are some songs I would omit (perhaps he wanted them included for personal reasons) and some songs that are notably absent (as someone mentioned, Waning Moon is one). It's a subjective thing, of course. After adding it to my collection (on my PC), I made my own 'best of...', and found I had only included 10 songs of the 19 on this disc. My version has a total of 17 songs. I added Synesthesia, Waning Mood, 1000 Years, Surrender, Fight for the World, Untitled, and This Father's Day. Again, it's subjective. This disc certainly gives a good overview of a brilliant body of work.
