About the Author

Virginia native and Florida resident Catherine Aragon caught the travel bug at a young age, thanks to her generous parents. (Extra emphasis on “generous,” because we all realize, especially with children of our own, how expensive family travel can be!) Her travels have criss-crossed the world’s great capitals: Paris, Rome, Madrid, Tokyo, and Franklin County, Virginia. (The latter, one of the world’s lesser-known destinations and Catherine’s childhood home, is acclaimed as “moonshine capital of the world.”) Nowadays she “reports for duty” stateside and overseas with her military husband.

Catherine’s favorite quote comes from author S. Rao: “There's no destination. The journey is all that there is, and it can be very, very joyful.” She believes these words ring true for travel and the joy of the journey - unless that journey happens to be a long plane ride with an energetic toddler (2012, Atlanta to Singapore, 24+ hours, middle seats)!

Hi! Since there are no reviews yet, would it be possible to see one page of the book with the scavenger hunt so we can have a better sense of whether this is a book that would appeal to our children? If it is a match for our child, we are hoping to order the Rome and Paris books asap since our trip is only 3 weeks away. Thanks.

If you want to have a pleasant, relaxing, wine-fuelled Roman interlude that is... I bought this for my nine-year old daughter and then spent 3 days being marched all over Rome while she figured out every possible permutation of itinerary and points scores (also tremendously good for her math). Half of me was thrilled she was so inspired and half of me wanted to take it to the very heart of the Colosseum (4 points), stab it, burn it and gouge its eyes out :) This book is like sightseeing crack, perfectly pitched at 3rd to 6th graders, and Ms Aragon has pulled together some really interesting facts and cool things to locate, which kept the interest not just of my grade schooler but also of her exhausted parents. Thank goodness we only had three days to spend in Rome and very good walking shoes. Seriously you buy this book at your peril. Caveat emptor!

What a great book for children - perfect as a companion for your kids while in Rome. I found the book to not only have fun activities for kids to do, but also lots of great info about Rome sights that they would think was interesting (tied into the activities). Really happy that I chose to purchase Mission Rome and would recommend it to others as well.

This was really great for our trip. My 7 year old had to find everything and it bought us a lot of extra time in many sites! I also bought one for my younger child and he followed right along and was just as excited to find things.
