If this table were, say, $100 more, I would rate it down another star. My high rating is based on the low price ($294 - $324 including shipping) for an all wood table that fits in a small space (20" x 40") yet expands to a large surface (40" x 72") easily big enough for 6 people and maybe 8 or even 10 in a pinch. See uploaded photos for how the extension mechanism works.

Unfortunately, contrary to what some reviewers say, the Stakmore table is not an especially attractive or well-made piece of furniture, and you should not expect it to be, considering the price and unique features. Yes, it's heavy and all wood and will probably outlast most Ikea stuff, but craftsmanship and quality control are lacking. I suspect buyers will experience a lot of variation in the fit and finish. I found, for example, that gaps between the boards, which other reviewers complained about, were not significant (had to shine a flashlight through to see them), but there was no shortage of other problems (see below). Eventually, I returned the table because it was the not the color I ordered, and the apron had a small crack. Had it not been for those two issues, I would have accepted the other flaws and kept the table.

PROS:

- Converts to four different sizes: 20"x40", 40"x40", "56"x40", 72"x40".

- At 40" it is wider than most tables.

- All wood. Rubber wood and ash veneer I think.

- Great price. $294 - $324 including shipping.

CONS:

- It looks a bit weird, because when opened, the table top consists of four different size boards: 20" and approximately 8" and 12", plus two 16" leaves. All these boards contribute to the unevenness of the top. See touchofclass dot com for good photos.

First...I love this table! It's beautiful, functional, and works exactly as I expected. I have a small home, a Lustron, with four adults living under the same roof. Four adults with four different agendas. The only time we sit down together for dinner is on special occasions or when we are dining out. It didn't make a lot of sense to have a big table in the center of the room doing nothing but taking up space. The table was old, reminiscent of the post modern Heywood/Wakefield style of the 50's...so it was birch. The new oak table blends well with my Heywood/Wakefield china cabinet from the 50's and serves as a nice little desk for my laptop when we aren't using the table for eating. My daughter put the new table together in 5 minutes! Awesome! We now have so much extra room that I now have a treadmill where to dining table used to be. Better use of space, wouldn't you say?

I just brought this home from FedEx and I have to say that it fits perfectly in the little spot that I have as a kitchen. I also tried out the different sizes and it was easy enough that I could adjust it myself.

I recommend this to anyone who has a small area. It was here before I knew it and no damage. Easy to put together and very sturdy.

This table is fabulous! The delivery was much earlier than I expected (by several days) and I was therefore able to use it as a banquet table for a party. I love the fifth leg which I have never seen mentioned in any other reviews. The leaves were flush to each other with no gaps. And the price was great with no shipping costs!! The color is true oak look. What a great buy!

I have had this table for a little over 3 years now, and I still absolutely love it! It is so versatile and has held up with 2 cats and 3 kids (all boys, lol) I honestly can't think of a single complaint, this is a solid table and well worth the money
