2.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Surprise?, May 14, 2000

Well, I've been a fan of The Mission since I first heard "Wasteland" on the radio in the mid-80's. I loved their first 4 albums (through Carved in Sand). For me, "Children" was their masterpiece. I bought "Resurrection" because I was interested in hearing the few new tracks along with a new mix of the old 'classics', but much to my surprise, all of the tracks had been re-recorded. I listened through it and found some very enjoyable new interpretations, Like a Child Again & Butterfly on a Wheel stood out, but I would categorize most as just an interesting experiment by Wayne Hussey (the singer and songwriter). I also found it surprising that Wayne, who personally put this collection together, left off tracks like Tower of Strength and Into the Blue. If you're a devout fan of The Mish, Without You and 1969 are worth the price of admission (if you buy it on sale like I did); if you're new to the Mission, then I'd advise buying the 1994 "Sum & Substance" Greatest Hits package instead because it has the original recordings and a stronger track selection. One last note, I'm very disappointed that Wayne and Cleopatra were so misleading by not somehow labeling this as "remade" versions of the old songs. I probably would have still bought it for the new material, but I feel a little cheated and taken advantage off. I will be much more skeptical in the future when buying from that label.

4.0 out of 5 stars Resurrected!, November 30, 1999

This CD took me a while to get into being a lover of the way the Mish have rocked through the 80's and 90's. However, it does grow on you overtime. The only new song on the CD, "Without You" is excellent and (hopefully! ) indicates Wayne Hussey has not hung up his songwriting for good. The reworkings of Crystal Ocean, Severina, and Love Me To Death were also highlights for me. I wouldn't recommend this for people wanting to get to know the Mish (try Sum & Substance) but as an addition to the collection it is very good and very original for the band.

Ok, I bought this specifically for Love Me to Death, a great song, which was not included on Sum and Substance. I'd only recommend this to long time Mission fans, and only if you're interested in re-recordings that are simply, Wayne. None of the songs are as great as the originals...
