4.0 out of 5 stars Resurrected!
This CD took me a while to get into being a lover of the way the Mish have rocked through the 80's and 90's. However, it does grow on you overtime. The only new song on the CD, "Without You" is excellent and (hopefully! ) indicates Wayne Hussey has not hung up his songwriting for good. The reworkings of Crystal Ocean, Severina, and Love Me To Death were also...

Well, I've been a fan of The Mission since I first heard "Wasteland" on the radio in the mid-80's. I loved their first 4 albums (through Carved in Sand). For me, "Children" was their masterpiece. I bought "Resurrection" because I was interested in hearing the few new tracks along with a new mix of the old 'classics', but much to my surprise, all of the tracks had been re-recorded. I listened through it and found some very enjoyable new interpretations, Like a Child Again & Butterfly on a Wheel stood out, but I would categorize most as just an interesting experiment by Wayne Hussey (the singer and songwriter). I also found it surprising that Wayne, who personally put this collection together, left off tracks like Tower of Strength and Into the Blue. If you're a devout fan of The Mish, Without You and 1969 are worth the price of admission (if you buy it on sale like I did); if you're new to the Mission, then I'd advise buying the 1994 "Sum & Substance" Greatest Hits package instead because it has the original recordings and a stronger track selection. One last note, I'm very disappointed that Wayne and Cleopatra were so misleading by not somehow labeling this as "remade" versions of the old songs. I probably would have still bought it for the new material, but I feel a little cheated and taken advantage off. I will be much more skeptical in the future when buying from that label.

The only new song on the CD, "Without You" is excellent and (hopefully! ) indicates Wayne Hussey has not hung up his songwriting for good. The reworkings of Crystal Ocean, Severina, and Love Me To Death were also highlights for me. I wouldn't recommend this for people wanting to get to know the Mish (try Sum & Substance) but as an addition to the collection it is very good and very original for the band.

Ok, I bought this specifically for Love Me to Death, a great song, which was not included on Sum and Substance. I'd only recommend this to long time Mission fans, and only if you're interested in re-recordings that are simply, Wayne. None of the songs are as great as the originals...

2.0 out of 5 stars Still Waiting for a True Resurrection, December 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Mission UK - Resurrection/Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Oh my God, Wayne...What are you doing? This album sounds as though you got drunk and decided to sit down with a bunch of tapes and a casio and decided upon a "Greatest Hits" Album. Be it, the songs originally are great..but leave them alone already. This sounds like Mission Musak. What makes this effort worse is that they chose Cleopatra records, pushing them further into the Has Been pile. I will always cherish the Mission's music (I even liked "Neverland") Just not this one.

1.0 out of 5 stars DECEPTION: The Album, December 1, 1999
This review is from: Mission UK - Resurrection/Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I have been a great fan of Wayne Hussey, and Craig Adams since the days when they ruled the goth world with Andrew Eldrich in The Sisters of Mercy. When they departed the S.O.M and formed The Mission, their first LP First Chapter was great. Gods Own Medicine which was the follow up album was a masterpiece in my judgement. The albums that followed "Children" & "Carved in Sand" were good. Then Simon Hinckler left the band and everything that followed was a disaster. The indie release The Mask was treacherous to listen to, and much to my sadness after listening to Resurrection, I can only think back to the days of past, when The Mission UK, ruled the world.

1.0 out of 5 stars LO FI RE-RECORDINGS...BEWARE!, February 22, 2007
By
This review is from: Mission UK - Resurrection/Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I'm just going to reprint L. Breeze's review since it's right on the money. Not "remixes" though. Just Wayne by himself in a friend's home studio re-recording the songs by himself. That's why it doesn't sound like The Mission UK...it ISN"T The Mission UK! Just Wayne Hussey and Pro-Tools. The rip off is that it doesn't tell you that on the sleeve, so you think you're getting a best of collection of the original versions. I bought this at Virgin when it first came out, played it once, took it right back! beware!

"This IS NOT a best of The Mission UK. If I could give this negative stars, I would. Don't get ripped off by this collection from Cleopatra. I did get ripped off. I'll never buy another product from Cleopatra. Shame on you Cleopatra! (the Label) They tell you it's a Best Of, but they are ALL very (VERY) lame remixes. They do not remotely sound like the same songs, or even The Mission UK. The packaging does not say these are remixes.

This is now available as a new release 02/21/2005 as Best of the Mission UK, but it's the same as this Greatest Hits collection from November 2, 1999, just with different album art.

Intead, buy something else such, as Sum and Substance."

2.0 out of 5 stars What went wrong?, March 27, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mission UK - Resurrection/Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
These songs are remakes of the originals, be aware.

This album just fuels the fire of my theory that early Mission was great when Simon was in the band. Nothing was the same after Simon left. I'm not sure what happened with this recording. It sounds like it was quickly whipped up to meet some contract obligation. The Mission was great live and bootleg recording capure the magic better than this album. There was something magic about the band, the songs just had feeling, it's too bad it was all lost in this recording. Stay away.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring - maybe, Enjoyable - yes, April 26, 2000

Although I do not know the mission that well, i still reckon this to be a great album. In fact I went to see the mission last night at a club and it was one of the best concerts i've been too. Re-recording all there classic songs gives a whole different perpective to their music and just because it doesn't sound the same as the original songs, doesnt make the album any worse - i really liked it.
