Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

PreSchool-K-A small boy blasts off in his spaceship for Mars but runs into a series of bizarre adventures when the spaceship explodes. A family of aliens, thinking he is a new kind of playmate, uses him as a soccer ball, and finally takes him back home on their own spaceship. Told in alternating good news/bad news style, this fast-paced adventure is right on target for picture-book sci-fi fans. Quirky cartoonlike illustrations in watercolor and ink heighten the humor in this offbeat story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mission Ziffoid, July 12, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mission Ziffoid (Hardcover)
My 7-year old son has difficulties reading -- so getting him interested enough in any book to struggle through to the last page was, until Mission Ziffoid, a chore. But with it's everyday conversational style, kid-builds-his-own-spaceship-and-encounters-silly-aliens theme, great illustrations and direct, repeated hits on my child's funny bone, Mission Ziffoid was the first book to motivate him to WANT to read. For us, it was the "breakthrough" book, a true turning point. I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for the magic key to opening a child's interest in reading.

This review is from: Mission Ziffoid (Hardcover)
My 7-year old son has difficulties reading -- a problem not helped by the fact that so many of the books written for his reading level are geared toward 4-year olds. As such, getting him interested enough in any book to struggle through to the last page was, until Mission Ziffoid, a chore. I strongly recommend it to anyone looking for that magic key to opening a child's interest in reading.
