I attended college in Mississippi and knew some of her history. This book helps fill in some gaps and provides new insights. It is very helpful to any student of history that might be passing through the state. It also helps as a handy reference guide.
I would recommend this to any professional or amateur historian and to any traveler.

This is an excellent book by a very good author. Mississippi is such a paradox and the clever narrative makes that point without resorting to stereotypes. I highly recommend it, especially if you are likely to road-trip thru Mississippi any time soon.

Provides facts and insight about Mississippi that locals and visitors alike will find interesting and enriching. Written in a style of gentlemanly scholarship suggesting that he, like his subject here, holds much more insightful treasure than this short visit allows. Hopefully he will share additional (though not all) of his knowledge of the treasures of this place with some following particular works.
