Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Missouri Curiosities is your round-trip ticket to the wildest, wackiest, most outrageous people, places, and things the Show Me State has to offer. Humor columnist Josh Young has combed Missouri for one-of-a-kind gems that make his adopted home state truly unique.
With this guide in hand you can visit the annual Great Stone Hill Grape Stomp, the world's largest underground lake, and the Museum of the Dog's Hall of Fame.
You'll meet the inventor of the propeller-driven Airbike, a world champion Japanese midget wrestler, and the acknowledged Queen of the Kewpies.
You'll find out which establishments serve baloney burgers, "caveman" barbecue, and hot rolls tossed across the room.
Whether you were born and raised in Missouri or are a recent transplant, Young's off-the-wall humor will have you laughing out loud as he introduces you to the neighbors you never knew you had and takes you to places you never knew existed - right in your own backyard.

About the Author

Josh Young's newspaper column, Dang Near Native, has garnered humor awards from the National Newspaper Association. When not roaming the state enjoying the offbeat, he may be found at home at his Long Creek Herb Farm, on the Arkansas border.

My wife and I had a lot of fun reading this book - the author has a real appreciation of people of all stripes, and a good sense of humor. We visited a lot of weird and wonderful places in Arkansas a few years ago, but now it's obvious that Missouri has even more wackiness to offer.

This is a great read: not only does it give practical advice for the MO tourist wishing to stray from the beaten path, it's also a great read for anyone interested in reading a bunch of darn good stories. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent book for those living in or passing through Missouri. Funny, informative, entertaining, and well-organized, the author takes us through the entire state of oddities and other sundry things, in a state where the natives are both charming and self-effacing. This book deserves two thumbs up for sure!
