"The history of Missouri is rich and varied. The state stands at the crossroads of America in "the Heart of the Nation." It has played a pivotal role in much of the nation's history, most particularly in the development of the American West. The writers have been concerned to present the story of the interaction of political, economic, and social activity. From earliest times to the present, the history of the state has been a story of people and their attempts to relate to their environment and changing circumstances. The writers hope that they have captured herein the full impact of those people and the forces that have shaped Missouri into the state it is today." Includes many illustrations.

I got this book for school but we are skipping chapters and I cannot wait to go back and read them. I will keep the book and my year old daughter has already said she wants to read it.

I had to read this book for Missouri History class required for my degree. It is a good textbook. I think the author provides a good history of the show me state. I think it could have been more culturally appropriate considering the history of the state and its civil war leanings, but all in all, a very good textbook.
