Missouri's War: The Civil War in Documents is an anthology of collected documents that serve as primary sources testifying about the motivations of Missouri's citizens before, during, and after the Civil War with an emphasis upon the war years. Missouri was unique in that it was the only Midwestern slave state, and quite literally one of the front lines between Union and Confederate armies. Its citizens had good reason to fear both antislavery guerillas (jaywalkers) and pro-Confederate guerillas (bushwhackers). Missouri's War is a superb gathering of letters, documents, and testimonies revealing how individuals coped with difficult times, and is strongly recommended especially for college library Civil War and Missouri history shelves.

This book includes great information about the Civil War in Missouri. The text provides many documents, letters, and first hand accounts, which clearly illuminate the Civil War in MO. I've read many books about the Civil War in MO, and this is by far one of the best written. Definitely five stars.
