Thank God for Pink - Who Needs Another Britney Spears Anyway,
By A Customer
This review is from: Missundaztood (Audio CD)
Okay, I admit it...I'm thirty-something, and I REALLY like Pink's music. I mean, let's face it, her voice is wonderful! I loved most of the songs on "Can't Take Me Home", and I even love more of the songs on "Missundaztood". My favorites on this cd are "Don't Let Me Get Me", "Just Like A Pill", "18 Wheeler", "Misery", "Dear Diary", "Lonely Girl", "Numb", and "My Vietnam"...ohhh forgedda 'bout it, ALL the songs on this cd are good! Of course, I was awakened by the poignant lyrics in the song "Family Portrait" which I have to say, I admire Pink for singing and putting on this cd. It's sad, brutally honest, and every parent in this world should listen to these lyrics as if they were sung by their own child. But thankfully, that's the only song on here that makes me want to cry inside. The rest are bluesy, jazzy, rock/pop sensations that just make you want to listen to them over, and over, and over, and over. Get the point?! Go ahead, buy this cd, you will not be sorry you added it to your collecion. And to Pink, if you ever read this - Keep up the good work girl! (and take care of that voice of yours, it's Golden!)

Well I'm so glad I bought this and really can't skip a single song. I had heard "GET THIS PARTY STARTED" and fell in love. Pink's new album is even better than her first one last year. I recommend this to anybody looking for some good tunes full of passionate lyrics.1. M!SSUNDAZTOOD - I love this song, very catchy and upbeat. Love the end skit. 4 stars out of 5 2. DON'T LET ME GET ME - Very rockish, with a electric guitar and very strong vocals that stand out. 4 stars out of 5 3. JUST LIKE A PILL - OMG I love this song!!! Nice opening. 5 stars out of 5 4. GET THIS PARTY STARTED - Sooooo catchy! Anybody who can't get pumped up with this must be dead. I'm lovin the electronica and hip-hop mix, kinda Madonna ish. 5 out of 5 5. RESPECT (FEAT. SCRATCH) - Wow Pink pulls off another great dance song, with a awesome beat and incredible messege! It samples the "R-e-s-p-e-c-t" chorus of Aretha Franklin's 60's hit. 4 out of 5 6. 18 WHEELER - Your upbeat rock-pop. Love the guitar. 4 out of 5 7. FAMILY PORTRAIT - This is a niiice song. It has a rap feel, but not too much. Sad, sad, lyrics that make you think about divorce & broken homes. 5 out of 5 8. MISERY (FEAT. STEVEN TYLER) - They sound soooo good together!!!! I couldn't believe, its' like they should have recorded from the start! 5 out of 5 9. DEAR DIARY - Kind of reminds me of Fiona Apple's 1997 hit "Criminal." Love the hypnotic beat. 5 out of 5 10. EVENTUALLY - A slow paced ballad with strings. Its about revenge on people who try to use Pink and turn their back on her. 4 out of 5 11. LONELY GIRL - Nice rock song. The most classical rock song, as it has a Beatles 60's era sound to it. 4 out of 5 12. NUMB - Hard femme rock at its best. Love it. 5 out of 5 13. GONE TO CALIFORNIA - A very sad, slow ballad about how bad of a shape Philadelphia is in. Nice melody. 5 out of 5 14. MY VIETNAM - A great rock tune about Pink's confusing life and wars. 5 out of 5

I've liked Pink since I first saw her in that terrific video with the motorcycle, and I think she's quite a talent. Her performances always capture my attention, she has a growing gift for songwriting, a unique singing style, and I just love that little wobble in her voice. This CD has its ups and downs...I can live without the first 3 tracks, but it also has some exceptional ones. The gems on this CD to my ears are "Family Portrait" (writen by Pink and Scott Storch), which is a really moving piece that I don't think could be sung better by anybody, I like "Eventually" (written by Pink and Linda Perry) more with each hearing (nice lyrics), and "Gone to California" (Pink and Perry again) is great. Her phrasing on this song is superb, and there's the added bonus of a jazzy A-1 sax solo by Jimmy Z, and David Siegel on organ adds a lot to it too. These three songs are some of the slower ones on this CD, and show a lot of artistry. Out of the current crop of young singers, I wouldn't be surprised if Pink is the one we'll be listening to 10 years from now.

I've read several reviews here that made me laugh. People who take every lyric literally should not buy this album. If you buy the album solely to hear "Get the Party Started" you may be disappointed. This is not a Britney/Nsync catchy pop album to choreograph dance routines to! It is, however, an indepth look into the soul of an artist that isn't afraid to be herself. Pink takes the road less traveled with this album. Unlike "Get the Party Started, most of the songs are deeply introspective. "Just Like A Pill", one of my faves on the album, is lyrically outstanding and one of the best songs I've heard in a long time. ... Although Pink attempts to express herself in Missundaztood, she is not vulgar or crude. Other ultrahighlights(since the entire album is a highlight) include the anti-conformist "Don't let me get me", "Family Portrait",and the Steven Tyler-Pink duet "Misery". Although I loved Pink's last album, I would have to say that this is a step forward for her. I recommend picking up a copy of Missundaztood. It is light years away from the ... manufactured pop albums released in the past few years.

Well, we've all heard "Don't let me Get me", "Get the Party Started", and "Just like a Pill" on the radio, and they are great songs! After hearing "Just like a Pill" (How did SHE know my ex-boyfriend??) I had to go buy this CD. And I'm stingy, I don't spend money on just anything! What I discovered when I listened this CD is that Pink is much more versatile than I gave her credit for. She's a very talent singer, and she shows her diversity with songs that'll make you cry (Family Portrait, and Lonely Girl), songs that'll make you stand up and cheer (Respect, 18 wheeler, and Eventually), songs that'll make you wonder how she ever got into your mind like that (My Vietnam, and Dear Diary) and songs that you just can't help but sing (Misery, Don't let Me get Me, and Just like a Pill). She shines on "Misery", and her vocals are just incredible, but my favorite is "My Vietnam" because I feel her pain...and I know exactly what she means. Buy this CD, and develop a deeper respect for Pink, you'll not regret it!

While Pink was stuffed under the teen R&B category for her first album Can't take me Home, any negative critic would be crazy or delusional to try to say she is following the same path this time around for M!ssundaztood. She really lets out her true talents for music and she is 10x bolder than she was two years ago. Want a diverse Cd with many different types of songs? Here's a rundown of the styles covered on the 14 tracks:1. Missundaztood - Upbeat Pop

Here's a song by song review:1) Missundaztood - an upbeat pop tune with a Nelly Furtado feel. Catchy and energetic. A+ 2) Don't let me get me - the most rock influenced song on the album, it kinda brings back mid 90's pop punk rock. The guitars are strong. 3) Just like a Pill - Another catchy pop hit with rock influence. This can easy be the next single, its upbeat and infectious 4) Get the party started - Disco pop. Has a weird 70's vibe and also has some urban groove to it. If Madonna worked with a hip hop producer, it would sound like this 5) Respect - She raps in this!!! She even says in the beginng of the song, "This my rap song, uh!" LOL she sounds good on here, her voice is strong. Upbeat and catchy with a beatbox in the background. 6) 18 wheeler - Extremely catchy song, if it werent for the guitars and percussion I would call this a dance song. It has a nice strong messege too 7) Family portrait - I like the melody and the beat. The lyrics are out of this world, kinda shocking 8) Misery with Steven Tyler - awesome freaking awesome!!! I seriously love this song. Steve and Pinks voices blend like a fine soup. It sounds great and could belong in your father's classic 60's rock collection 9) Dear diary - Indie rock mixed with pop. Like the whispery chorus. Nice song 10) Eventually - A soul R&B ballad. Pink sings very loud and clear, with a lot of power. When my mom heard this, she said "God, she has a beautiful voice" 11) Lonely girl - It's good. Linda perry appears on it. Very rock sounding, great guitar opening 12) Numb - Love it, so much feminine attitude. Yeah it does kinda sound Fiona Apple or Alanis like. But Pink puts her own spin on it. Love the lyric "No sleep, no sex, for you from your ex-girlfriend, you made me numb" 13) Gone to California - Love it!!!! Nice soul ballad. Could use a little kickstart like a melody or drums, but it's great 14) My vietnam - If you like pop rock then you'll die for this. Awesome lyrics

Pink has really hit the nail on the head with this album. After recent events I think people are looking for music that actuyally speaks to them and not music that will be like a sugar pill with limited effects. On Missundaztood Pink gets heavily into writing the songs. She wrote 11 of the 14 songs on the album. The tracks actually mean something and the melodies and musical arrangements are breathtaking. Songs like My Vietnam, Lonely Girl, and Family Portrait really get to you and leave you breathless. She keeps her sense of humour and ads little speaking bits in the beginning of certain songs that will keep you smiling. I bought this CD on the day it first came out and have been listening to it non-stop all day everyday. I especially love her new rock driven song. But don't get her wrong she's not about to become all indie, there's still some R&B on this album. It's a perfect fusion that everyone will enjoy. And what someone else on here said is true, you can't put this album in one genre. It's definatly the best album I've heard from any of those artists that came out during the Britney era. While Britney is whining and pretending to be deep, Pink is not pretending to be deep, she's just honest.

I first heard this CD when my Girl Scout troop talked me into playing it while we were driving to an event. As a fan mainly of blues I cringed as it came on the stereo but was amazed at how much I enjoyed the songs -- especially "Just Like A Pill." So I bought the CD and was knocked out by "Misery." I hope Pink leaves the hip-hop/girl singer stuff behind and concentrates on blues. Her voice is incredible and she has the potential of being the next Bonnie Raitt.

Pink's sophomore album "Missundaztood" showcases her troubled life growing up. The result? A good pop/light rock CD. In "Family Portrait" she talks about the fights her parents had when she was younger and surprisingly, it's a really good song with a cool beat. "Misery" features legendary Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler. He definitely adds to this blues/jazz type song. "18 Wheeler" is my favorite. It's about telling someone you can hurt me, put me down and "run over me with your 18 wheeler truck," but I'll just get right back up. It really has a positive message. The first single from this album "Get the Party Started" is a cool dance track, but if it's played numerous times, it can get a bit annoying. "Don't Let Me Get Me" is about not liking who you are and how sometimes you wish you could be someone else. My second fave.Overall, "Missundaztood" is a great album because Pink wrote all of the songs on here (with the exception of "Get the Party Started," "Lonely Girl" and "Misery") and she only sings about stuff she's dealt with in life. It's a lot different from her 2000 debut, "Can't Take Me Home" because it was mostly pop/R&B music. This time, Pink does it all- rock, R&B, some pop and even blues. |
