Book Description

A true story about two orphaned baby Florida Keys raccoons who were rescued from a construction site. The author learns about being a wildlife rehabilitator and about this remarkable, unique species of raccoon found only in this island chain. This charming book is written to give young readers a glimpse into the life of a wildlife rehabber and what's involved when you rescue a little orphan. The adorable photos throughout the book capture the personalities of these babies as they grow up and are eventually released into the wild. An informative Question/Answer section at the end helps people learn what to do if you find a little animal in need of help. The proceeds from the sale of this book go directly to the care of orphaned and injured animals at wildlife rehabilitation facilities in the Florida Keys.

More About the Author

Nancy Chatelaine loves to write and draw and be creative. Missy & Molly, her first published work, is about two little raccoons who changed her life, permanently, irrevocably for the better. The proceeds from Missy & Molly go to help orphaned and injured animals. Now living on a tropical island in Florida, she is an advocate for all wild creatures.

A commercial artist for many years, Ms. Chatelaine is also a talented illustrator. The Space Ferry, originally drawn as a gift for her god daughter, has recently been published and is, of course, available through Amazon.

There are several other projects on the drawing board with publication coming in the near future!

"I just love to tell stories. The most enjoyable ones for me are the little magical things that happen in everyday life. I like to write in a simple style that young people of any age can enjoy!"

5.0 out of 5 stars great nonfiction, October 25, 2009

This review is from: Missy & Molly, Orphaned Baby Raccoons: Learning to be a Wildlife Rehabilitator (Paperback)
I read this book to my fourth grade students, and they loved it! Not only is it very informative about the raccoon, but also what a wild life rehabilitator does. The author of this book makes a serious commitment in caring for orphaned or injured wild life until they are well or old enough to set free in the wild again. It is difficult to find good nonfiction for grade school children that captures their attention so much and encourages so many questions. I'm waiting for more from this author.
