Great cd,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Mr Mista (Audio CD)
I bought this cd with no expectations and was not disapointed. Trey Lorenz has a very unique voice and there are some beautiful songs on here. Very creative release with only a couple of skippable tracks. It looks I'm in the minority here though. Everybody else seems to have been disapointed by it.
I'd suggest just listening to the samples before buying it because you could either be in the majority who thinks this is a boring cd or in the minority like me who loves it. =d don't always go by reviews. In my opinion, this is an excellent Cd and I have now ordered Trey Lorenz's debut album.

Promising, but falls a bit short.,

Ok, any Mariah Carey fan knows Trey Lorenz.. He is the amazing vocalist that accompanied Mariah on her number 1 cover of the jackson 5's hit "I'll Be There". Trey was signed by epic records after the popularity of that song and released his own debut album "Trey Lorenz" which spawned the top 20 single "Someone to hold" back in 92'.
Some 14 years later, Trey has released his sophmore album "Mimi presents: Mr. Mista" and although this album is by no means a bad album if fails to live up to the splendor of his original release. To be fair, this is a independent album (no major record label behind it) and their are no major producers or writers to it's credit. For the most part the album was written by Trey himself with help from musicians with a very low budget. You can tell by the album art as well as the audio quailty which is missing that slick sound that only a major studio release can offer. Mariah Carey is featured on a couple of the songs here but mainly in the background (another duet would of been great addition to this album and may of boosted sales) The main track that she sings on is "Pieces" and is a decent track but is still missing some of the magic that they make together... If you want to hear their chemistry firsthand check out the song "Make You Happy" from the Men In Black movie soundtrack, awesome! Of course Trey's voice is still incredible, and his songs are not all that bad either. Many of the songs are a throwback to artists like Al Greene, The Jackson 5 and Bill Withers. There's a classic feel to the album that is not found on many of the current R&B hitmakers. Still it would of been great to hear some of the top producers get their hands on this material to give it a more current feel. Over all it is a good effort. If you are in to great R&B music & have a fondness to motown & classic soul you will love this album. However, Trey's longtime fans will no doubt feel a little disappionted by this and may find themselves dusting off their old Trey CD's.

Previewing CD now...but first impressions,
This review is from: Mr Mista (Audio CD)
Trey, I am disappointed. Your voice does not need Mariah to promote you anymore. Some of us remember you from MTV's Unplugged. Sorry, as a marketing guy, you probably need her to get to the new crowd who was in the whomb when I was AT the Mariah Carey NBC TV Special in NY (8th row Fan Club seat).
As for the CD (and I'll come back and post another review if my first impression is wrong) it sounds too much like the Jackson Five from the 60s. I was looking for more Run Back To Me and the song I have on my wedding video, Someone to Hold. Not enough accompanying music? Can't put my finger on it?? Too 60s soulish? I'll give it a further spin...but my gut tells me you need Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to produce the next one. LA Face, something. This seems weak. And what's with the gun in the inner cover photo with Mariah? All I can say is, Whatcha gonna do when you get out of jail? I'm gonna find Mariah and make me an album. ;-) Just kidding, sort of.
